The introduction of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) has had a major impact on anaesthetic practice in the last ten years. Previous authors have demonstrated pressures equivalent to mean arterial blood pressure within the cuff of the LMA. This study examined the effects of cuff inflation on the cross sectional area, flow and velocity of blood flow at the level of the carotid sinus. ⋯ This study demonstrates that inflation of the cuff on the LMA results in a decrease in carotid bulb cross sectional area which results in a decrease in blood flow.

To investigate the relationship between total body weight (TBW) or body mass index (BMI) and atracurium reversal time. ⋯ When atracurium-induced neuromuscular block is antagonised with 0.07 mg.kg-1 neostigmine. TBW or BMI have no influence on reversal time.

We studied the neuromuscular effects of both atracurium and mivacurium in a patient with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMTD) during nitrous oxide-oxygen-alfentanil-propofol anaesthesia. Neuromuscular blockade was monitored electromyographically. Train-of-four stimulation (2 Hz @ 20 sec intervals) was delivered to the ulnar nerve throughout the period of observation. ⋯ There was no evidence of prolonged response to atracurium and mivacurium in our patient with CMTD.

Case Reports
Intrathecal catheter insertion during labour reduces the risk of post-dural puncture headache.
To describe the anaesthetic management and report the incidence of PDPH in three parturients who had experienced accidental dural puncture during labour and the subsequent deliberate intrathecal insertion of an epidural catheter. ⋯ Immediate intrathecal insertion of the epidural catheter after accidental dural puncture during labour proved to be an effective prophylactic technique to prevent PDPH in these three parturients.
