The optimal regional technique to control pain after breast cancer surgery remains unclear. We sought to synthesize available data from randomized controlled trials comparing pain-related outcomes following various regional techniques for major oncologic breast surgery. ⋯ PROSPERO (CRD42020198244); registered 19 October 2020.

Noise in the operating room during induction of anesthesia: impact of a quality improvement initiative.
Noise in the operating room (OR) is common and associated with negative effects on anesthesiologists, surgeons, and patient outcomes. Induction of anesthesia is among the loudest perioperative periods. Despite its critical nature, there is little data on noise levels during induction, associated patient and anesthesiologist satisfaction, and the effects of noise reduction strategies. ⋯ gov (NCT04204785); registered 19 December 2019.

Effects of intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion on renal function in elective living donor kidney transplantation: a randomized controlled trial.
Ischemia-reperfusion injury is inevitable during donor organ harvest and recipient allograft reperfusion in kidney transplantation, and affects graft outcomes. Dexmedetomidine, an α2-adrenoreceptor agonist, has renoprotective effects against ischemia-reperfusion injury. We investigated the effects of intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion on renal function and the development of delayed graft function after elective living donor kidney transplantation in a randomized controlled trial. ⋯ gov (NCT03327389); registered 31 October 2017.

The objective of this study was to describe the incidence, management, and complications of difficult and failed endotracheal intubation in a general surgical population. ⋯ The incidences of difficult and failed intubations in our study were 2.6 and 0.3 per 1,000 surgeries requiring laryngoscopies, respectively, with a decrease over time. Videolaryngoscopy showed a high success rate as a rescue device.
