Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Remimazolam to prevent hemodynamic instability during catheter ablation under general anesthesia: a randomized controlled trial.
Maintaining hemodynamic stability during cardiac ablation under general anesthesia is challenging. Remimazolam, a novel ultrashort-acting benzodiazepine, is characterized by maintaining comparatively stable blood pressure and does not influence the cardiac conduction system, which renders it a reasonable choice for general anesthesia for cardiac ablation. We aimed to evaluate whether remimazolam is associated with a decreased incidence of intraoperative hypotension compared with desflurane. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05486377); first submitted 1 August 2022.

Comparison of the effects of paratracheal pressure and cricoid pressure on placement of the i-gel® supraglottic airway: a randomized clinical trial.
Anesthesiologists can use supraglottic airway devices as a rescue technique for failed intubation even in patients with an increased risk of gastric regurgitation. In this randomized study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of cricoid pressure and paratracheal pressure on placement of the i-gel® (Intersurgical Ltd., Wokingham, Berkshire, UK). ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05377346); first submitted 11 May 2022.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Reducing rebound pain severity after arthroscopic shoulder surgery under general anesthesia and interscalene block: a two-centre randomized controlled trial of pre-emptive opioid treatment compared with placebo.
Although a single-injection interscalene block provides effective early postoperative analgesia following shoulder surgery, patients may experience "rebound pain" when the block resolves. Our objective was to determine if oral hydromorphone (2 mg) given six hours after a single-injection interscalene block for arthroscopic shoulder surgery leads to a clinically significant reduction in the severity of rebound pain. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02939209); registered 19 October 2016.

Ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block for postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass surgery: a double-blinded randomized controlled trial.
Minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB) surgery is associated with significant postoperative pain. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) for analgesia after MIDCAB. ⋯ Erector spinae plane block provided early effective postoperative analgesia and reduced opioid consumption, time to extubation, and ICU discharge in patients undergoing MIDCAB.
