Transfusion-Associated Circulatory Overload in ICUs: A Scoping Review of Incidence, Risk Factors, and Outcomes.
Transfusion-associated circulatory overload is the most frequent serious adverse transfusion reaction, with an incidence close to 1% of transfused patients in the general adult population. Patients in ICUs are probably more at risk of transfusion-associated circulatory overload as they are more frequently transfused and associated with more comorbidities. However, the epidemiology of transfusion-associated circulatory overload in ICU is not well characterized, leading to a risk of underdiagnosis.

Observational StudyEnhanced Renal Clearance in Patients With Hemorrhagic Stroke.
To evaluate enhanced renal clearance over time in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage or intracerebral hemorrhage via measured creatinine clearance and to compare measured creatinine clearance to creatinine clearance calculated by the Cockcroft-Gault equation and estimated glomerular filtration rate calculated by the Modification of Diet in Renal Diseases equation. ⋯ A substantial group of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage or intracerebral hemorrhage experienced enhanced renal clearance, which may be otherwise unknown to clinicians. Enhanced renal clearance may lead to increased renal solute elimination over what is expected, resulting in subtherapeutic renally eliminated drug concentrations. This may result in underexposure to critical medications, leading to treatment failure and other medical complications.

Socioeconomic Position and Health Outcomes Following Critical Illness: A Systematic Review.
Systematically review evidence examining association between preadmission socioeconomic position and physical function, health-related quality of life and survival following critical illness. ⋯ Lower socioeconomic position is associated with higher mortality and lower 6-month Short Form-12 Mental Component Summary scores following critical illness. Effect on performance-based physical function is unknown. We make recommendations for consistent socioeconomic position measurement in future ICU studies.
