The case of a patient with blunt traumatic internal carotid artery dissection associated with subocclusive stenosis and thromoboembolic complication is presented. The patient suffered fluctuant neurological abnormalities and several open and closed fractures of the left limb. The vascular lesion and its complication were successfully treated with intraarterial thrombolysis and stent placement during the acute phase, prior to the open surgical treatment of the fractures.

Covered stent exclusion of blunt traumatic carotid artery pseudoaneurysm: case report and review of the literature.
Injury to the carotid artery from blunt trauma, when not lethal, will often go unrecognized. A 37-year-old male was the belted driver in a motor vehicle accident 15 years prior to presenting with intermittent left upper extremity parasthesias and weakness. A large, calcified distal right internal carotid artery (ICA) pseudoaneurysm was diagnosed and successfully excluded with a 7 x 30 mm covered stent.

Arterioesophageal fistula: a rare complication of retroesophageal subclavian arteries.
Formation of a fistula between a retroesophageal subclavian artery and the esophagus is a rare cause of hematemesis that is usually fatal. Several etiologies have been described. ⋯ Arteriography in the operating room confirmed the presence of a fistula and also allowed temporary hemostasis by tamponade. On the basis of a review of the literature, this case demonstrates the importance of screening patients requiring prolonged nasogastric intubation to rule out the possibility of an aberrant aortic arch system.
