ReviewPalliative care referral criteria and application in pediatric illness care: A scoping review.
Specialty pediatric palliative care services can help to address unmet care needs for children with complex and serious illness. Current guidelines support the identification of unmet palliative care needs; however, it is unknown how these guidelines or other clinical characteristics influence pediatric palliative care referral in research and practice. ⋯ The literature demonstrates inconsistent methods for identifying and referring children and adolescents with unmet palliative care needs. Prospective cohort studies and clinical trials would inform more consistent pediatric palliative care referral practices. More research is needed on palliative care referral and outcomes in community-focused pediatrics.

ReviewExercise interventions for advanced cancer palliative care patients: A systematic literature review and descriptive evidence synthesis of randomized controlled trials.
Exercise is often recommended for cancer patients. However, for advanced cancer palliative care patients, it is unclear whether exercise, as a lifestyle intervention, is beneficial for palliative outcomes. ⋯ Current randomized controlled trials regarding effects of exercise interventions on palliative outcomes for advanced cancer patients show great variability. While studies show promise, no generalizable conclusions can be made. Further research is needed.

ReviewPalliative and end-of-life care needs, experiences, and preferences of LGBTQ+ individuals with serious illness: A systematic mixed-methods review.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) individuals experience discrimination throughout the care continuum, including during serious illness and at end of life. High-quality palliative care requires that health professionals deliver individualized services that reflect the needs, experiences, and preferences of LGBTQ+ persons. ⋯ The robustness of the science has improved regarding the needs, experiences, and preferences of trans individuals. Actionable, inclusive policies coupled with sustained and integrated cultural sensitivity training for health workers are mandatory. Interventional research is critical to enhance tailored palliative care for LGBTQ+ people and their chosen families.
