Prevalence of depression after TBI in a prospective cohort: The SHEFBIT study.
The objective is to measure the prevalence of depression after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the features associated with increased risk in a cohort that reflects clinical practice. ⋯ The 3-month prevalence of depression after TBI is very high and associated with several injury and demographic features. Future long-term follow-up of this cohort aims to confirm the features that increase risk; this may allow the earlier targeting of susceptible individuals for depression interventions.

Case ReportsRecovery of an injured cingulum concurrent with improvement of short-term memory in a patient with mild traumatic brain injury.
We reported on a patient with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) who showed recovery of an injured cingulum concurrent with improvement of short-term memory, which was demonstrated on follow-up diffusion tensor tractography (DTT). ⋯ In conclusion, recovery of an injured cingulum concurrent with improvement of short-term memory was demonstrated in a patient with mild TBI.

Post-concussive symptoms after a mild traumatic brain injury during childhood and adolescence.
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is common injury during childhood and adolescence but the long-term outcomes are poorly understood. This study examined post-concussive symptoms and behavioural outcomes in children and adolescents up to 24 months post-mTBI. ⋯ PCSs are common 2 years post-mTBI in childhood or adolescence. Given this, additional intervention and support is needed for families post-injury.

Do postconcussive symptoms from traumatic brain injury in combat veterans predict risk for receiving opioid therapy for chronic pain?
Opioid therapy is contraindicated in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) with neuropsychological impairment, yet guidelines do not consistently predict practice. We evaluated independent risk for initiation of opioid therapy among combat veterans with chronic pain diagnoses and persistent postconcussive symptoms. ⋯ Increased opioid prescribing in veterans with self-reported severe persistent postconcussive symptoms indicates a need to educate prescribers and make non-opioid pain management options available for veterans with TBI and neuropsychological sequelae.
