Evaluation of Electrostimulation Effect in Women With Vocal Nodules.
To evaluate the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) with and without tongue trills in women with vocal nodules. ⋯ TENS applied alone or combined with tongue trills was associated with improved glottal closure and phonation comfort. TENS associated with tongue trills yielded improved voice quality.

Supraglottic Airway Devices and Effect on Voice-Comparison of LMA Proseal and i-gel: Double-Blind Randomized Clinical Trial.
Laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is an important alternative to endotracheal intubation for all professional voice users undergoing surgery. However, dysphonia is a known complication of LMA Proseal (PLMA) use. The i-gel airway (IGA) provides adequate airway seal without the need for an inflatable cuff. Hence, it helps to minimize the risk of tissue compression. This study compares effect of PLMA and IGA on voice at 24th hour after anesthesia. ⋯ PLMA and IGA both produce comparable and significant deterioration in acoustic variables at 24th hour after short duration general anesthesia.

Teachers are one of the professional voice users. Voice problems are common among them. Female teachers are known to have more voice problems than male ones. Furthermore, there are only few studies on the voice of Iranian female teachers. The present study investigated the acoustic parameters of voice in Iranian female teachers and compares them with nonteachers. ⋯ It can be concluded that vocal overuse, abuse, or misuse during teaching over a period of time result in achievement of inadequate phonatory pattern with excessive musculoskeletal tension, and the possible result is tissue changes in teacher's voice. In addition, acoustic analysis of voice parameters for teachers may significantly contribute to the objective voice examination of this group.

The present study aimed at evaluating the effect of deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the caudal zona incerta (cZi) on voice tremor in patients with essential tremor (ET). ⋯ On the group level, voice tremor in patients with ET was found to reduce when stimulating the cZi. Bilateral stimulation was indicated to be more effective in reducing voice tremor than unilateral stimulation. However, individual voice tremor outcomes suggest that not all patients benefit from cZi DBS. Severity of voice tremor at baseline may not be a good predictor of voice tremor outcome after cZi DBS. Patients should be informed before surgery regarding individual differences in response to DBS treatment.

(1) To quantify acute changes in acoustic parameters of the voices of group fitness instructors (GFIs) before and after exercise instruction. (2) To determine whether these changes are discernible perceptually by the instructor. ⋯ Statistically significant changes in pitch and volume were found on acoustic analysis. However, these subtle changes remained within the limits of what is considered normal and representative of the participant's age and gender. Further research into the effects of exercise instruction on the voice is needed.
