Age- and sex-related characteristics of the increasing trend of nontuberculous mycobacteria pulmonary disease in a tertiary hospital in South Korea from 2006 to 2016.
The incidence rate of nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) is increasing worldwide. However, data regarding the age- and sex-specific epidemiology of NTM-PD are limited. This study aimed to investigate the long-term epidemiologic trends of NTM-PD within the recent 11- year period in a tertiary referral hospital in Korea. ⋯ The incidence rate of NTM-PD in a tertiary referral hospital in South Korea continued to increase from 2006 to 2016. Furthermore, there were age- and sex-related differences in the clinical characteristics, which might contribute to understanding the nature of the disease and inherited and acquired host factors.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 ( SARS-CoV-2) is the novel coronavirus responsible for the ongoing pandemic. It is known that SARS-CoV-2 infects the host through the cell surface receptor of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which is expressed in multiple organs, and in the arterial and venous endothelial cells. ⋯ There is now a general consensus on the recommendation of anticoagulation in patient with severe SARS-Cov2 infections, although the dose of the prophylaxis and even the choice between a prophylactic and a treatment regimen remains controversial. Randomized controlled trials are urgently needed to help clarifying the many therapeutic challenges associated with the management of SARS-Cov-2 patients.

Derivation and validation of modified early warning score plus SpO2/FiO2 score for predicting acute deterioration of patients with hematological malignancies.
Scoring systems play an important role in predicting intensive care unit (ICU) admission or estimating the risk of death in critically ill patients with hematological malignancies. We evaluated the modified early warning score (MEWS) for predicting ICU admissions and in-hospital mortality among at-risk patients with hematological malignancies and developed an optimized MEWS. ⋯ Compared to the traditional MEWS, the MEWS_SF score may be a useful tool that can be used in the general ward to identify deteriorating patients with hematological malignancies.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyComparison of the morphologic criteria (RECIST) and metabolic criteria (EORTC and PERCIST) in tumor response assessments: a pooled analysis.
The Positron Emission Tomography Response Criteria in Solid Tumors (PERCIST) or European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) criteria are used to assess metabolic tumor responses. However, tumor responses have shown considerable discrepancies between the morphologic criteria (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors [RECIST]) and metabolic criteria. We performed this pooled study to compare the RECIST and metabolic criteria in the assessment of tumor responses. ⋯ This pooled analysis demonstrates that the concordance of tumor responses between the morphologic criteria and metabolic criteria is not excellent. When adopting the metabolic criteria instead of the RECIST, overall response rates were significantly increased.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Observational StudyAngiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers as a first choice in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
Angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockers (ARBs) have not been adequately evaluated in patients without left ventricular (LV) dysfunction or heart failure after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). ⋯ Our results suggest that ARBs are not inferior to, and may actually be better than ACEIs in Korean patients with AMI.
