Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyIntramuscular electrical stimulation for hemiplegic shoulder pain: a 12-month follow-up of a multiple-center, randomized clinical trial.
Assess the effectiveness of intramuscular electrical stimulation in reducing hemiplegic shoulder pain at 12 mos posttreatment. ⋯ Intramuscular electrical stimulation reduces hemiplegic shoulder pain, and the effect is maintained for > or =12 mos posttreatment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialTreatment of pain attributed to plantar fasciitis with botulinum toxin a: a short-term, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study.
To investigate the effect of botulinum toxin A on associated pain and functional impairment of refractory plantar fasciitis. ⋯ Botulinum toxin A injection for plantar fasciitis yields significant improvements in pain relief and overall foot function at both 3 and 8 wks after treatment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialEfficacy of computer-aided dosing of warfarin among patients in a rehabilitation hospital.
To determine whether computer-aided dosing of warfarin is superior to physician dosing to maintain a patient in a rehabilitation hospital within a target international normalized ratio goal. ⋯ Computers were significantly better at maintaining patients within a therapeutic international normalized ratio range than physicians. There were no significant differences in the number of recommended blood draws.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialEvaluation of iontophoresis and local corticosteroid injection in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome.
The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of local corticosteroid injection with iontophoresis of corticosteroids in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. ⋯ Our study comparing a standardized treatment protocol for incorporating local corticosteroid injection and iontophoresis of dexamethasone sodium phosphate in carpal tunnel syndrome revealed success of both iontophoresis of dexamethasone sodium phosphate and injection of corticosteroids, but symptom relief was greater at 2 and 8 wks with injection of corticosteroids.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialComparison of stochastic vs. conventional transcutaneous electrical stimulation for pain modulation in patients with electromyographically documented radiculopathy.
To determine if a transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS) unit modified to deliver electrical impulses at random (R) or stochastic frequency, called TENS-R, provided better pain relief than conventional TENS. ⋯ Qualitative pain scores significantly improved when the patient used TENS-R vs. conventional TENS. Lead placement of any TENS modality over the back vs. over the leg improved all pain scores.
