Multicenter StudyMortality in patients with acute aortic dissection type A: analysis of pre- and intraoperative risk factors from the German Registry for Acute Aortic Dissection Type A (GERAADA).
Acute aortic dissection type A (AADA) is an emergency with excessive mortality if surgery is delayed. Knowledge about independent predictors of mortality on surgically treated AADA patients is scarce. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify pre- and intraoperative risk factors for death. ⋯ GERAADA could detect significant disease- and surgery-related risk factors for death in AADA, influencing the outcome of surgically treated AADA patients. Comatose and resuscitated patients have the poorest outcome. Cannulation sites and operative techniques did not seem to affect mortality. Short operative times are associated with better outcomes.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyThe TRIBECA study: (TRI)fecta (B)ioprosthesis (E)valuation versus (C)arpentier Magna-Ease in (A)ortic position.
To determine whether the Trifecta bioprosthetic aortic valve produces postoperative haemodynamic results comparable with or better than those of the Magna Ease aortic valve bioprosthesis. ⋯ The haemodynamic performance of the Trifecta bioprosthesis was superior to that of the Magna Ease valve across all conventional prosthesis sizes, with almost no incidence of severe patient-prosthesis mismatch. The long-term follow-up is needed to determine whether these significant haemodynamic differences will persist, and influence clinical outcomes.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Observational StudyEquipoise between radial artery and right internal thoracic artery as the second arterial conduit in left internal thoracic artery-based coronary artery bypass graft surgery: a multi-institutional study†.
Multiple arterial coronary artery grafting (MABG) improves long-term survival compared with single arterial CABG (SABG), yet the best second arterial conduit to be used with the left internal thoracic artery (LITA) remains undefined. Outcomes in patients grafted with radial artery (RA-MABG) versus right internal thoracic artery (RITA-MABG) as the second arterial graft were compared with SABG. ⋯ RA-MABG or RITA-MABG equally improve long-term survival compared with SABG and thus should be embraced by the Heart Team as the therapy of choice in LITA-based coronary artery bypass surgery.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyAortic valve replacement through full sternotomy with a stented bioprosthesis versus minimally invasive sternotomy with a sutureless bioprosthesis.
The aim of this study was to analyse early postoperative outcomes and 2-year survival after aortic valve replacement (AVR) through a ministernotomy with a sutureless bioprosthesis implantation compared with a full sternotomy with implantation of a stented bioprosthesis. ⋯ AVR through a ministernotomy with implantation of a sutureless bioprosthesis was associated with shorter aortic cross-clamp and cardiopulmonary bypass time and less transfusion of packed red blood cells, but a higher risk for postoperative permanent pacemaker implantation compared with a full sternotomy with a stented bioprosthesis.

Multicenter StudyIs the radial artery associated with improved survival in older patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting? An analysis of a multicentre experience†.
Studies suggest that the radial artery (RA) may exhibit superior patency compared with the saphenous vein (SV). It is unclear whether older patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) derive any survival benefit from the use of RAs. We sought to evaluate this using a multicentre database. ⋯ This multicentre analysis suggests that the use of an RA is associated with a survival benefit in older patients undergoing CABG.
