Association of postoperative delirium with cognitive outcomes: A meta-analysis.
To determine the association between postoperative delirium (POD) and cognitive outcomes at least 1 month after surgery in elderly patients, and synthesize the dynamic risk trajectory of cognition impairment after POD. ⋯ This is the first meta-analysis quantifying the association between POD and cognitive outcomes. Our results showed that POD was significantly associated with worse cognitive outcomes, including short- and long-term cognitive outcomes following surgery.

Randomized trial of transversus abdominis plane block with liposomal bupivacaine after cesarean delivery with or without intrathecal morphine.
To investigate efficacy and safety of liposomal bupivacaine (LB) transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block with or without intrathecal morphine (ITM) compared with ITM alone for postsurgical analgesia after cesarean delivery (CD). ⋯ LB TAP block with or without ITM resulted in statistically noninferior postsurgical opioid consumption through 72 h, reduced pruritus, and favorable safety compared with ITM in women undergoing CD.

Granisetron or ondansentron to prevent hypotension after spinal anesthesia for elective cesarean delivery: A randomized placebo-controlled trial.
This study aimed to compare the effects of high doses of ondansetron and granisetron before spinal anesthesia on hemodynamic parameters in patients undergoing elective cesarean section. ⋯ It was concluded that prophylactic IV administration of 3 mg of granisetron or 8 mg of ondansetron before spinal anesthesia results in a significantly lower ephedrine requirement compared to placebo.

Association of perioperative hypotension with subsequent greater healthcare resource utilization.
Determine if perioperative hypotension, a modifiable risk factor, is associated with increased postoperative healthcare resource utilization (HRU). ⋯ We report a significant association of perioperative hypotension with an increase in HRU, including additional LOS and readmissions, both important contributors to overall medical costs.

Effects of methylprednisolone on early postoperative pain and recovery in patients undergoing thoracoscopic lung surgery: A randomized controlled trial.
Evidence from previous studies indicates that glucocorticoids offer effective postoperative analgesia and improve the quality of recovery (QoR). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative methylprednisolone on early postoperative pain and QoR following thoracoscopic lung surgery. ⋯ Our findings suggested that preoperative methylprednisolone (either high or low dose) has limited impact on early postoperative pain and recovery in patients undergoing thoracoscopic lung surgery, with no clinically relevant benefits detected when compared with placebo.
