Review Meta Analysis
Preoperative screening of patients at high risk of obstructive sleep apnea and postoperative complications: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To determine the association between postoperative complications and a high versus low risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) as determined via screening tools. ⋯ Very low-quality evidence suggested that a high risk of OSA, as assessed using the STOP-Bang questionnaire, was associated with a higher incidence of postoperative respiratory complications, and may also be associated with higher incidences of postoperative cardiac and neurological complications than a low risk of OSA. Since most of the included studies did not adjust for confounding factors, our findings need to be interpreted with caution. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42021220236.

Association of preoperative vitamin D deficiency with the risk of postoperative delirium and cognitive dysfunction: A meta-analysis.
Despite vitamin D deficiency (VDD) associated with cognitive dysfunction in the general population, the impacts of preoperative VDD on postoperative delirium (POD) and cognitive dysfunction (POCD) remain to be clarified. ⋯ Our results demonstrated that preoperative vitamin D deficiency was associated with postoperative cognitive impairment. Given the prediction interval, more future studies are needed to elucidate associations between VDD and POD/POCD.

Quality of recovery (QoR) is an important concept in the perioperative care of a patient. Assessment of QoR has prognostic and economic importance, with clinical and research applications and improves patient satisfaction in the perioperative period. ⋯ Special attention is paid to the Quality of Recovery 40 (QoR-40) and the Quality of Recovery 15 (QoR-15) assessment tools, with further attention to development, composition, validation, and subsequent usage of the QoR-15. Furthermore, factors that have been found to influence QoR and the importance of measuring QoR will be discussed.
