Impact of emergence delirium on long-term survival in older patients after major noncardiac surgery: A longitudinal prospective observational study.
To test the hypothesis that emergence delirium might be associated with worse long-term survival. ⋯ www.chictr.org.cn; ChiCTR-OOC-17012734.

The lactate-to-albumin ratio (LAR) has been confirmed to be an effective prognostic marker in sepsis, heart failure, and acute respiratory failure. However, the relationship between LAR and mortality in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains unclear. We aim to evaluate the predictive value of LAR for ARDS patients. ⋯ We confirmed that there was a positive correlation between LAR and 28-day mortality. This could provide anesthesiologists and critical care physicians with a more convenient tool than SAPSII without being superior for detecting ARDS patients with poor prognosis timely.

Detailed reports are scarce on minimally-invasive tracheostomy (MIT) techniques for critically ill patients with challenging anatomy or complex coagulopathies. In such high-risk patients, conventional percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) may lead to severe complications. ⋯ The use of our refined care bundle enabled swift minimally-invasive tracheostomy in high-risk patients without the occurrence of serious complications.

Effects of Desflurane versus sevoflurane on graft outcome of patients with cirrhosis receiving steatotic liver graft in deceased donor liver transplantation.
This study aimed to analyze the effects of two volatile anesthetic agents, desflurane and sevoflurane, on graft outcomes in patients undergoing deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT) for cirrhosis, with a specific focus on fatty grafts. ⋯ Sevoflurane as a maintenance agent during DDLT in recipients with high MELD scores and fatty grafts may be associated with poorer outcomes compared to desflurane.

The effectiveness of aspirin treatment in septic patients remains a subject of debates. ⋯ Aspirin was associated with decreased mortality in SIMI patients, and this beneficial effect persisted regardless of pre-ICU treatment.
