The effect of intravenous ketamine on depressive symptoms after surgery: A systematic review.
The development of depressive symptoms is an important complication experienced by patients postoperatively and is associated with poor clinical outcomes. Ketamine is a feasible treatment option for depressive symptoms after surgery due to its known antidepressant effect. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the current body of research regarding the effects of intravenous ketamine on depressive symptoms after surgery. ⋯ The current evidence supports intravenous ketamine administration for the treatment of depressive symptoms after surgery. While ketamine administration has clinically significant side effects, future studies are needed in surgical populations at high risk of complications.

Review Meta Analysis
Prevalence of preoperative cognitive impairment in older surgical patients.: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Older surgical patients with cognitive impairment are at an increased risk for adverse perioperative outcomes, however the prevalence of preoperative cognitive impairment is not well-established within this population. The purpose of this review is to determine the pooled prevalence of preoperative cognitive impairment in older surgical patients. ⋯ A substantial number of surgical patients had unrecognized cognitive impairment. In elective non-cardiac and emergency surgeries, the pooled prevalence of unrecognized cognitive impairment was 37.0% and 50.0%. Preoperative cognitive screening warrants more attention for risk assessment and stratification.

Auricular stimulation for preoperative anxiety - A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials.
Previous randomized controlled trials (RCTs) suggest that auricular stimulation (AS) is safe and effective in treatment of preoperative anxiety; however, a systematic evaluation is lacking. The aim was to summarize the evidence on efficacy and safety of AS for preoperative anxiety, as well as for other outcomes. ⋯ AS may be useful in treatment of preoperative anxiety. Due to heterogenous certainty in effect estimates, further research is needed to clarify the actual efficacy of AS for preoperative anxiety.
