Impact of opioid-free anaesthesia on postoperative nausea, vomiting and pain after gynaecological laparoscopy - A randomised controlled trial.
Opioid-free anaesthesia may enhance postoperative recovery by reducing opioid-related side effects such as nausea, hyperalgesia or tolerance. The objective was to investigate the impact of multimodal opioid-free general anaesthesia on postoperative nausea, vomiting, pain and morphine consumption compared to the traditional opioid-based approach. ⋯ Opioid-free multimodal general anaesthesia is feasible but did not decrease the incidence of PONV, or reduce pain scores and morphine consumption compared to an opioid-containing anaesthetic regimen.

Dexmedetomidine reduces acute kidney injury after endovascular aortic repair of Stanford type B aortic dissection: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study.
To determine the effect of dexmedetomidine on acute kidney injury (AKI) following endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for Stanford type B aortic dissection (TBAD). ⋯ Dexmedetomidine reduced the incidence of AKI in TBAD patients after EVAR procedures. The long-term benefits of dexmedetomidine in this patient population warrant further investigation.

Application of controlled low central venous pressure during hepatectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Previous studies reported that controlled low central venous pressure (CVP) can reduce blood loss during liver resection. This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to explore the efficacy and safety of low CVP in patients undergoing hepatectomy. ⋯ The findings of this study showed that low CVP is effective and safe during hepatectomy. Therefore, this technique is recommended to reduce blood loss during hepatectomy. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42021232829.

Anterior quadratus lumborum block at the lateral supra-arcuate ligament versus transmuscular quadratus lumborum block for postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy: A randomized controlled trial.
The analgesic efficacy of transmuscular quadratus lumborum block (TQLB) to decrease the need for opioid consumption after laparoscopic nephrectomy has been demonstrated in several studies. However, the effect of an anterior QLB approach at the lateral supra-arcuate ligament (QLB-LSAL) in this surgical context is unclear. Here, we aimed to compare postoperative analgesic effects of the two block approaches in laparoscopic nephrectomy. ⋯ The results indicate that, compared to TQLB, QLB-LSAL is a beneficial nerve block that can reduce postoperative opioid consumption, making it a potentially superior approach to achieve multimodal analgesia after laparoscopic nephrectomy.

Granisetron or ondansentron to prevent hypotension after spinal anesthesia for elective cesarean delivery: A randomized placebo-controlled trial.
This study aimed to compare the effects of high doses of ondansetron and granisetron before spinal anesthesia on hemodynamic parameters in patients undergoing elective cesarean section. ⋯ It was concluded that prophylactic IV administration of 3 mg of granisetron or 8 mg of ondansetron before spinal anesthesia results in a significantly lower ephedrine requirement compared to placebo.
