Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPrognostic factors for complete debulking in advanced ovarian cancer and its impact on survival. An exploratory analysis of a prospectively randomized phase III study of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Gynaekologische Onkologie Ovarian Cancer Study Group (AGO-OVAR).
No residual tumor as result of primary surgery in advanced ovarian cancer is known as one of the most important prognostic factors. ⋯ Post-operative residual tumor is one of the most important independent prognostic factor for survival. Our results suggest an advantage for aggressive primary surgery and complete debulking. This surgical goal was achieved more often in experienced centers.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyImpact of age on outcome in patients with advanced ovarian cancer treated within a prospectively randomized phase III study of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Gynaekologische Onkologie Ovarian Cancer Study Group (AGO-OVAR).
Ovarian cancer exhibits the highest mortality rate among gynecologic cancer and survival rates vary considerably by age. Therefore, we investigated impact of age on outcome in advanced ovarian cancer. ⋯ Reduced surgical radicality, that means both less optimal debulking and also less radical surgery, contributes to poorer outcome in elderly patients with advanced ovarian cancer. However, age-specific surgical approaches did only partially explain age-dependent outcome. Therefore, generalization of study results to all patient age groups might be limited and further studies should focus specifically on treatment in elderly patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialCould precolposcopy information and counseling reduce women's anxiety and improve knowledge and compliance to follow-up?
To investigate the effects of precolposcopy counseling on women's anxiety, knowledge about colposcopy and compliance to follow-up. ⋯ Precolposcopy session with explanation and discussion improves women's knowledge about colposcopy, but has negligible effects on women's anxiety before colposcopy. Provision of written and video information at the precolposcopy sessions can improve compliance to follow-up after colposcopy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialLong-term survival advantage for women treated with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin compared with topotecan in a phase 3 randomized study of recurrent and refractory epithelial ovarian cancer.
Provide long-term follow-up data for women treated in a randomized multicenter study of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin compared with topotecan. ⋯ Long-term follow-up demonstrates that treatment with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin significantly prolongs survival compared with topotecan in patients with recurrent and refractory epithelial ovarian cancer. The survival benefit is pronounced in patients with platinum-sensitive disease.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialA prospective, randomized study analyzing sartorius transposition following inguinal-femoral lymphadenectomy.
Based on the reduced morbidity seen in our retrospective study, we undertook a prospective, randomized trial to determine whether transposition of the sartorius muscle improves post-operative morbidity in women with squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva undergoing inguinal-femoral lymphadenectomy. ⋯ Sartorius transposition after inguinal-femoral lymphadenectomy does not reduce postoperative wound morbidity.
