To assess the compliance with hand hygiene guidelines among nursing staff in secondary care hospitals in Kuwait. ⋯ Observed hand hygiene compliance among nursing staff in secondary care hospitals in Kuwait was poor. High self-reported compliance may reflect a high level of awareness of hand hygiene but may also suggest that improving compliance through increasing awareness has probably reached saturation.

Intravenous and peritonsillar infiltration of ketamine for postoperative pain after adenotonsillectomy: a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial.
To evaluate the efficacy of preoperative intravenous or peritonsillar infiltration of ketamine for postoperative pain control in children following adenotonsillectomy. ⋯ Our results show that peritonsillar infiltration of ketamine was more effective in reducing the postoperative pain severity, need for analgesics and need for antiemetics. Thus, peritonsillar infiltration of ketamine is suggested for postoperative pain control in those undergoing adenotonsillectomy.

Dexmedetomidine use during strabismus surgery in agitated children.
We aimed to investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine premedication before intravenous infusion of ketamine in agitated children undergoing strabismus surgery. ⋯ Dexmedetomidine premedication followed by intravenous infusion of ketamine was effective in decreasing OCR, agitation, pain, analgesic requirement in agitated children undergoing strabismus surgery.

This study was conducted to analyze patients' knowledge about therapeutic goals for diabetic patients and factors associated with good knowledge. ⋯ The current findings revealed that lack of knowledge about recent levels of BP, LDL-C and HbA1c and therapeutic goals was alarmingly high, which highlights the need for the implementation of an effective multidisciplinary team approach to encourage patient education and self-care.

To determine the prevalence of asymptomatic malaria among prospective blood donors and its effect on some hematological parameters. ⋯ Asymptomatic malaria is prevalent among blood donors in the study area and is associated with thrombocytopenia.
