To investigate whether or not the CHA2DS2-VASc score predicts left atrial (LA) thrombus detected on pre-cardioversion transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE). ⋯ A high CHA2DS2-VASc score was independently associated with the presence of LA thrombus in patients with non-valvular AF.

To evaluate the impact of brief and sequential exposure to nystatin on the germ tube formation and cell surface hydrophobicity of oral isolates of Candida albicans obtained from patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). ⋯ These data elucidate the possible pharmacodynamic mechanisms by which nystatin might operate in vivo in the modulation of candidal virulence.

Radiographic diagnosis of osteochondritis dissecans of the temporomandibular joint: two cases.
To present two cases of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) in temporomandibular joints (TMJs) evaluated by panoramic radiography and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). ⋯ The CBCT images revealed degenerative osseous changes and loose bodies on TMJs. The lesions were diagnosed as OCD with the help of trauma history, as well as clinical and radiographic findings.

Right upper-quadrant pain in a patient with drug abuse, secondary syphilis and occult hepatitis B virus.
To describe the etiology of hepatitis and identify occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. ⋯ This case describes a patient with multiple potential causes for hepatitis and highlights the importance of obtaining a detailed social history. Further, one should consider the presence of occult HBV and recognize the serologic pattern.

To evaluate left and right ventricular functions using tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDE) and myocardial performance index (MPI) methods in patients with slow coronary flow (SCF) and to determine the relationship between these parameters and thrombolysis in myocardial infarction frame count in SCF patients. ⋯ This study showed that SCF affected LV functions echocardiographically and could cause partially reduced LV performance. In addition, SCF did not affect RV functions echocardiographically.
