Recent studies demonstrate that prothrombotic antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) are overrepresented in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) due to coronary artery disease (MICAD). However, it is not known whether aPL differ between the two subsets of MI: MICAD and MI with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA). ⋯ aPL IgG, but not IgA/M, are enriched particularly in patients with MICAD but also in patients with MINOCA, as compared to controls. Interestingly, signs of hypercoagulability-measured by increased levels of the APC-PCI complex-were present in aPL IgG-positive MICAD patients, indicating an association with functional disturbances of the coagulation system.

Apolipoprotein C-III predicts cardiovascular events and mortality in individuals with type 1 diabetes and albuminuria.
We studied apolipoprotein C-III (apoC-III) in relation to diabetic kidney disease (DKD), cardiovascular outcomes, and mortality in type 1 diabetes. ⋯ The impact of apoC-III on MACE risk and mortality is restricted to those with albuminuria among individuals with type 1 diabetes. This study also revealed that apoC-III predicts DKD progression, independent of the initial DKD category.

Obesity is associated with subclinical myocardial injury as quantified by concentrations of cardiac troponin T, but whether lifetime excess weight history is associated with increased concentrations of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and how indices of abdominal adiposity and glycemic dysregulation affect these associations remain unclear. ⋯ Individuals with stable overweight or obesity are at increased risk of subclinical myocardial injury, independently of glycemic dysregulation and abdominal adiposity. Our data support a direct detrimental effect of long-standing obesity on cardiovascular health.

Kidney failure is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in familial lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency (FLD), a rare inherited lipid disorder with no cure. Lipoprotein X (LpX), an abnormal lipoprotein, is primarily accountable for nephrotoxicity. ⋯ This study demonstrates that CER-001 may represent a therapeutic option in FLD patients. It also has the potential to be beneficial in other renal diseases characterized by kidney lipid deposits.
