Multicenter Study
Patients of 75 years and over with ANCA-associated vasculitis have a lower relapse risk than younger patients: A multicentre cohort study.
Little is known about antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) in older patients. We aim to study relapse risk of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) or microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) in patients diagnosed after 75 years and compare it with those of patients aged 65-75 years. ⋯ AAV patients ≥75 years have a lower relapse risk than patients aged 65-75 years despite a lower probability of having received maintenance therapy with a combination of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants, but they still benefit from such treatment regimen.

Obesity is associated with subclinical myocardial injury as quantified by concentrations of cardiac troponin T, but whether lifetime excess weight history is associated with increased concentrations of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and how indices of abdominal adiposity and glycemic dysregulation affect these associations remain unclear. ⋯ Individuals with stable overweight or obesity are at increased risk of subclinical myocardial injury, independently of glycemic dysregulation and abdominal adiposity. Our data support a direct detrimental effect of long-standing obesity on cardiovascular health.

Kidney failure is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in familial lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency (FLD), a rare inherited lipid disorder with no cure. Lipoprotein X (LpX), an abnormal lipoprotein, is primarily accountable for nephrotoxicity. ⋯ This study demonstrates that CER-001 may represent a therapeutic option in FLD patients. It also has the potential to be beneficial in other renal diseases characterized by kidney lipid deposits.
