Eyelid position and contour abnormality could lead to various diseases, such as blepharoptosis, which is a common eyelid disease. Accurate assessment of eyelid morphology is important in the management of blepharoptosis. We aimed to proposed a novel deep learning-based image analysis to automatically measure eyelid morphological properties before and after blepharoptosis surgery. ⋯ This technique had high accuracy and repeatability for automatically measuring eyelid morphology, which allows objective assessment of blepharoptosis surgical outcomes. Using only patients' photographs, this technique has great potential in diagnosis and management of other eyelid-related diseases.

Prediabetes as a risk factor for major adverse cardiovascular events.
Type II diabetes mellitus (DM) is a proinflammatory process and a known risk factor for major adverse cardiac events (MACE). The same inflammatory markers may be present in prediabetes (pDM); however, the relationship between pDM by HbA1c and MACE is not well studied. We sought to see if pDM increases one's risk for MACE. ⋯ Prediabetes is a risk factor for MACE. Normalization of HbA1c values appears to decrease the adjusted risk for MACE and should be the goal in patients with pDM.KEY MESSAGESPatients with prediabetes (pDM) are at increased risk for major cardiovascular events.Normalization of HbA1c in pDM patients may have a clinically significant benefit, in terms of lowering the MACE risk.Prediabetes patients who progress into diabetes mellitus may represent a particularly high-risk group.

The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic performance of an autoantibody battery in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors who experienced immune-related adverse events (irAEs). ⋯ Positivity in a readily available autoantibody battery may be associated with the occurrence of irAEs.KEY MESSAGESPositivity in an accessible and inexpensive autoantibody battery including antinuclear, anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic, anti-thyroid antibodies and rheumatoid factor may be associated with the occurrence of immune-related adverse events.Patients with cancer on immune checkpoint inhibitors experiencing immune-related adverse events showed a lower risk of progression and better overall survival than patients not experiencing this type of adverse effect.

This study evaluated the correlation between radiation-induced lung injury (RILI) and dosimetric parameters on computed tomography (CT) images of stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients undergoing intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). ⋯ This study showed that RILI occurred in a localized range in stage I NSCLC patients who underwent IMRT. The range of RILI was correlated with V20 in the acute phase and V5 in the late phase. KEY MESSAGES RILI correlated with V20 in acute and V5 in late phase. The shadow of RILI occurred in 80% dose region in acute and 70% in late phase. No relationship exists between radiographic changes in RILI and PTV volume.

Spontaneous ilio-psoas haematomas (IPHs): a warning for COVID-19 inpatients.
Critically ill patients with COVID-19 are at increased risk of developing a hypercoagulable state due to haemostatic changes directly related to the SARS-CoV-2 infection or to the consequence of the cytokine storm. Anticoagulation is now recommended to reduce the thrombotic risk. Ilio-psoas haematoma (IPH) is a potentially lethal condition that can arise during the hospitalization, especially in intensive care units (ICUs) and frequently reported as a complication of anticoagulation treatment. ⋯ Given the indications to prescribe anticoagulant therapy in COVID-19 and the lack of solid evidences on the optimal dose and duration, it is important to be aware of the iliopsoas haematoma as a potentially serious complication in COVID-19 inpatients. KEY MESSAGE Critically ill patients with COVID-19 are at increased risk of hypercoagulability state and anticoagulation therapy is recommended. Ilio-psoas haematoma (IPH) is found to be a complication of anticoagulation regimen especially in severe COVID-19 cases. An incidence of 7.6 cases per 1000 admission of IPHs was reported. Hypoesthesia of the lower limbs, pain triggered by femoral rotation, hypovolaemia and anaemia are the most common symptoms and signs of IPHs that should alert physician.
