Faecal calprotectin is an important biomarker used in the evaluation of inflammatory bowel disease. The aim of this study was to establish the value of faecal calprotectin concentration as a predictor of remission in ulcerative colitis and its correlation with laboratory, endoscopic and clinical findings. ⋯ Our results have shown that faecal calprotectin is an independent predictor of remission in UC patients. The results of our study represent real-life data from a single university centre dealing with FC as a prognostic marker in patients with UC. KEY MESSAGESFaecal calprotectin is an independent predictor of remission in UC patients.Recent studies have suggested that calprotectin correlates well with endoscopic activity of inflammation but correlation of faecal calprotectin in a phase of remission hasn't been evaluated yet.We have found that other inflammatory biomarkers do not correlate well with either endoscopic or clinical activity in ulcerative colitis.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the major causes encouraging the elevation of androgens, obesity along with menstrual complications. Here we study the effect of Apigenin in rat model of polycystic ovarian syndrome. ⋯ The findings confirmed that Apigenin ameliorates the disturbed hormonal levels, lipid profile and antioxidant status in PCOS rats.

Insulin is temperature sensitive as high temperatures reduce its potency. Refrigeration for insulin storage is still needed but households in remote areas do not have refrigerators. Also, the electricity supply is usually affected by natural disasters. We aim to examine the temperature-reducing efficacy of cooling devices in hot-humid conditions. ⋯ Traditional low-cost devices, such as clay pots, reduce storage temperatures to or close to room temperature in hot-humid climates. This study provides some guidance for insulin storage in hot-humid environments.

Prognostic analysis of hidradenocarcinoma: a SEER-based observational study.
Hidradenocarcinoma is a rare malignancy of sweat gland differentiation. Published literature has reported that hidradenocarcinoma has a high recurrence and metastasis rate, and the prognosis is extremely poor. However, the sample sizes included in these studies are insufficient, and therefore, the findings are doubtful. ⋯ Hidradenocarcinoma is a malignant tumour with a good prognosis, which is different from previous views. Tumour size is inversely proportional to patients' overall survival time affecting the OS and CSS of patients. Improving health awareness, initial histological examination and timely surgery are the keys to improving the prognosis.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a critical regulator of malignant pleural effusion (MPE) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Bevacizumab (BEV) and apatinib (APA) are novel VEGF blockers that inhibit lung cancer cell proliferation and the development of pleural effusion. ⋯ Mechanistically, LLC-induced MPE was inhibited by targeting the VEGF-MEK/ERK pathways. Further studies are needed to establish the synergistic therapeutic effect of these drugs in NSCLC patients with MPE.KEY MESSAGESCombined treatment of MPE with apatinib, bevacizumab and cisplatin can prolong the survival time of mice, reduce the content of MPE, decrease the SUVmax of thoracic tumour tissue, down-regulate the content of VEGF and sVEGFR-2 in serum and pleural fluid, and promote the apoptosis of tumour cells. Angiogenesis and MPE formation can be inhibited by down-regulation of HIF-1α, VEGF, VEGFR-2, MEK1 and MMP-2 molecular signalling pathway proteins.
