Clostridioides difficile (formerly known as Clostridium difficile) infection (CDI) is one of the most prevalent healthcare-associated infections in the United States (US). In the early 2000s, CDI emerged as a great threat with increasing prevalence, mortality, and severity, especially in advanced age. We investigated the US national trends in in-hospital CDI prevalence, mortality, severity, and age composition from 2003 to 2014. ⋯ Compared to the earlier years 2003-2008, overall CDI outcome improved in the later years 2008-2014. Younger patients increasingly contributed to CDI prevalence, mortality, and severity during 2003-2014. More studies to understand underlying driving forces of changes in CDI trends are warranted to mitigate CDI.

Associating liver partition and portal vein ligation (ALPPS) technique is a promising strategy for unresectable primary liver tumours without sufficient future liver remnants (FLRs). ⋯ Corosolic acid inhibits tumour growth without compromising ALPPS-induced liver regeneration. This result may be attributed to the CA-induced downregulation of PD-1 and TGF-β expression and the increased CD8+ lymphocyte infiltration in tumour tissue associated with the suppression of M2 macrophage polarisation. Key MessagesThis study aimed to investigate the effect of CA on ALPPS-induced liver regeneration and hepatic tumour progression after ALPPS-induced liver regeneration.Corosolic acid inhibits tumour growth without compromising ALPPS-induced liver regeneration. This result may be attributed to the CA-induced downregulation of PD-1 and TGF-β expression and the increased CD8+ lymphocyte infiltration in tumour tissue associated with the suppression of M2 macrophage polarisation.

The Occupational Balance Questionnaire (OBQ) is an instrument that assesses occupational balance (OB). It has been transculturality adapted and validated in different countries, showing adequate psychometric properties. To date, no general population-based cut-off points for OB have been developed. ⋯ The OBQ-E presents adequate psychometric properties, and its normative data can be used as a reference to assess and monitor the occupational balance in the general Spanish population.KEY MESSAGESThe 'Occupational Balance Questionnaire' (OBQ), stands out as a specific measure of the concept of Occupational Balance, considered as satisfaction with the number and variation of occupations in which the person participates. The OBQ is a short and simple instrument that can be a useful tool for use in population-based and epidemiological studies to monitor OB and explore the associated factors or implications of disturbed OB.The Spanish version of the OBQ (OBQ-E) seems to be a reliable and valid questionnaire to assess the perception of balance between occupations, related to health and well-being in the Spanish adult population.

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is associated with progressive dyspnoea and exercise intolerance, but despite the central role of physiotherapy on pulmonary rehabilitation, there is a huge lack of physiotherapy approaches used specifically for LAM patients. ⋯ Endurance and resistance training is the keystone for physiotherapy in patients with LAM, but despite the reported benefits, there is a huge lack of studies related to the modalities, safety and dosage of physiotherapy prescription for patients with LAM.KEY MESSAGESLymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a rare disease, leads to progressive dyspnoea and exercise intolerance;Physiotherapy can improve dyspnoea and exercise intolerance in LAM through endurance and resistance exercises.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the major causes encouraging the elevation of androgens, obesity along with menstrual complications. Here we study the effect of Apigenin in rat model of polycystic ovarian syndrome. ⋯ The findings confirmed that Apigenin ameliorates the disturbed hormonal levels, lipid profile and antioxidant status in PCOS rats.
