Little is known regarding long-term consequences (≥5 years) of sport-related concussion (SRC) sustained during adolescence. Adolescent SRC has been linked to athlete considerations of sport participation and subsequent retirement from sport during this critical developmental period. Prolonged SRC symptoms can reduce ability to perform physical activity, and research suggests inactivity can extend years post-injury. Therefore, SRC may affect long-term physical activity, which may result in decreased cardiorespiratory fitness and increased adiposity. ⋯ It is possible to maintain adequate long-term cardiorespiratory fitness and adiposity following adolescent SRC relative to those who only sustained sport related MSK injuries or did not sustain significant injuries as adolescents/adults.

Skeletal muscle dysfunction is a significant factor contributing to exercise limitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Although exercise training is often recommended to enhance patient outcomes, there continues to be ongoing debate regarding its exact effects. ⋯ Exercise interventions have a positive effect on the treatment of patients with COPD, significantly improving functional capacity, aerobic capacity, and exercise tolerance, but they should be individualized and developed according to the patient's condition to achieve the best therapeutic effect.

Prognostic impact of body composition in hepatocellular carcinoma patients with immunotherapy.
This study aims to examine the possible relationship between body composition parameters, sarcopenia, and clinical outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who received immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment. ⋯ The presence of sarcopenia and low SMI in HCC patients undergoing treatment with ICIs was found to be related to inferior treatment response and reduced long-term effectiveness.

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a debilitating chronic pain condition that, although exceedingly rare, carries a significant burden for the affected patient population. The complex and ambiguous pathophysiology of this condition further complicates clinical management and therapeutic interventions. Furthermore, being a diagnosis of exclusion requires a diligent workup to ensure an accurate diagnosis and subsequent targeted management. ⋯ Current management directed at this disease is broad and growing, ranging from non-invasive modalities such as physical and psychological therapy to more invasive techniques such as dorsal root ganglion stimulation and potentially amputation. Ideal therapeutic interventions are multimodal in nature to address the likely multifactorial pathological development of CRPS. Regardless, a significant need remains for continued studies to elucidate the pathways involved in developing CRPS as well as more robust clinical trials for various treatment modalities.

Sleep is an essential factor for health and wellbeing in people across the age spectrum; yet many adolescents do not meet the recommended 8-10 h of nightly sleep. Unfortunately, habitually insufficient sleep, along with the metabolic changes of puberty, puts adolescents at increased risk for a host of adverse health outcomes such as obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Furthermore, individuals from historically minoritized racial and ethnic groups (e.g. Hispanic/Latinx, African American/Black) are more likely to experience shorter sleep duration compared to adolescents of White/European origin, placing them at even greater risk for disparities in T2D risk. ⋯ We conclude with a discussion of the implications and future research directions of racial and ethnic disparities in sleep health and T2D prevention research. A comprehensive understanding of adolescent sleep health disparities has potential to better inform preventative and educational programs, interventions, and policies that promote sleep health equity and improve cardiometabolic outcomes like T2D.
