Comparative Study
Comparison of androgen receptor mutation detection between plasma extracellular vesicle DNA and cell-free DNA and its relationship to prostate cancer prognosis.
In liquid biopsy, mutation detection is primarily performed using cell-free DNA (cfDNA). However, the numerous advantages of extracellular vesicle (EV) DNA for mutation detection have gradually garnered the attention of researchers in recent years. This study aimed to compare the differences between EV DNA and cfDNA in mutation detection and explore the role of plasma androgen receptor (AR) mutations in the prognosis of prostate cancer (PCa). ⋯ Mutation detection using either EV DNA or cfDNA is both feasible in PCa liquid biopsies, and EV DNA AR mutations have an advantage in prognostic assessment for PCa. This study lays the foundation for future research on EV DNA-related biomarkers.

It is unclear whether changing trajectories of renal function will increase the risk prediction information of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study aimed to evaluate the trajectory patterns of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the association between eGFR trajectories and CVD risk. ⋯ Decline and increase of renal function were related to the risk of CVD, MI, and IS in the rural areas of Xinjiang. Monitoring eGFR changing trajectory is of great significance in improving the risk of CVD.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Whether dialysis parameters have a prognostic value in ESKD patients with Covid-19 remains unclear. ⋯ Acute Covid-19 illness is associated with variations in dialysis parameters of volume status in patients with ESKD. Furthermore, increases in predialysis BP during acute Covid-19 illness are associated with an adverse prognosis in Covid-ESKD patients.

This study aimed to assess whether in utero exposure to hyperglycemia influences prescription medicine purchases in the offspring of women with type 1 diabetes (exposed offspring). ⋯ Our findings suggest that exposed offspring purchase more reimbursable prescription medicines than reference offspring from age seven to thirty years. More research is needed to examine the effects of intrauterine exposure to hyperglycemia on long-term health in offspring.

Thyroid nodules are common, and investigation is crucial for excluding malignancy. Increased intranodular vascularity is frequently observed in malignant tumors, which can be detected through increased skin surface temperatures using noninvasive infrared thermography. We aimed to develop a diagnostic tool for thyroid cancer using infrared thermal images combined with an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. ⋯ The infrared thermal images, assisted by an AI model, exhibit good performance in distinguishing thyroid malignancy from benign nodules. This imaging modality has great potential to be used as a noninvasive screening tool for adjunct evaluation of thyroid nodules.
