Smartband-based smoking detection and real-time brief mindfulness intervention: findings from a feasibility clinical trial.
Smartbands can be used to detect cigarette smoking and deliver real time smoking interventions. Brief mindfulness interventions have been found to reduce smoking. ⋯ Findings demonstrate the feasibility of using a smartband to track smoking and deliver quit smoking interventions contingent on smoking.

Propyl gallate (PG) has been found to exert an inhibitory effect on the growth of different cell types, including lung cancer cells. However, little is known about the cytotoxicological effects of PG specifically on normal primary lung cells. The current study examined the cellular effects and cell death resulting from PG treatment in human pulmonary fibroblast (HPF) cells. ⋯ In conclusion, PG induces G1 phase arrest of the cell cycle and cell death in HPF cells through apoptosis and/or necrosis. The observed HPF cell death is mediated by the modulation of Bax and caspase-3. These findings offer insights into the cytotoxic and molecular effects of PG on normal HPF cells.

The purpose was to investigate how well age-adjusted modified quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) scores paired with blood glucose and lactate levels predict the outcomes of septicemic children in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). One hundred children who were diagnosed with sepsis and septic shock in the PICU of Henan Children's Hospital were eligible, and other 20 patients in the same hospital at different times were selected as a validation set. Respiratory rate (RR), heart rate (HR), capillary refill time (CRT), and Alert, Voice, Pain, Unresponsive (AVPU) scale were included in the age-adjusted modified qSOFA scoring criteria for scoring. ⋯ The AUC of the age-adjusted modified qSOFA score for the validation set of was 0.925. When the three indices were combined, the AUC was 0.817, the Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test showed χ2 = 2.428 and p = .965. When children with sepsis are admitted to the ICU, we recommend performing rapid scoring and rapid bedside lactate and glucose testing to determine the early prognosis.

Underlying causes of vaccine hesitancy could significantly affect successful uptake of the SARS-CoV2 vaccine booster doses during new waves of COVID-19. Booster rates among US adults are far below what is needed for immunity, but little is known about booster hesitancy among fully vaccinated adults and whether medical mistrust exacerbates barriers to uptake. ⋯ Results indicate that medical mistrust is an important independent construct when understanding current COVID-19 booster hesitancy. While much work has looked at demographic differences to explain vaccine hesitancy, these results suggest that further research into understanding and addressing medical mistrust could be important for implementing interventions to increase booster rates.

The chemotherapy resistance often leads to chemotherapy failure. This study aims to explore the molecular mechanism by which MUC1 regulates paclitaxel resistance in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), providing scientific basis for future target selection. ⋯ MUC1 was highly expressed in A549/TAX cells, and MUC1-EGFR crosstalk with IL-6 may be due to the activation of NF-κB and MAPK pathways, which promote the enrichment of CSCs and lead to paclitaxel resistance.
