Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is the most common chronic respiratory disease among preterm infants. Owing to the limitations in current diagnostic methods, developing a predictive model for BPD is crucial. ⋯ We constructed and validated a diagnostic prediction model for BPD based on WIPI1, TOMM70A, BAG3, and PRKCQ. These four genes may influence BPD development by regulating immune responses and immune cells.

Steatotic liver disease (SLD) prevalence is rising worldwide, linked to insulin resistance and obesity. SLD prevalence can surpass 10% even among those with normal weight. In Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), where Opisthorchis viverrini (OV) trematode infection and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are common, infection related liver morbidity such as cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is high, but data on SLD prevalence is lacking. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence and explore determinants of SLD in rural southern Lao PDR for lean and non-lean populations. ⋯ SLD prevalence is notably high among Laotian adults in rural areas, particularly in females and in non-lean individuals. Lean individuals with OV infection exhibited lower SLD prevalence. SLD was more prevalent in individuals with T2DM, independent of BMI. SLD adds to the burden of infection-related liver morbidity in Lao PDR.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), studies have found correlations between blood cell count-derived inflammatory markers (BCDIMs) and disease severity and prognosis in COVID-19 patients. However, there is currently a lack of systematic comparisons between procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) and BCDIMs for assessing the severity and prognosis of COVID-19 patients. ⋯ PCT, CRP, CAR and BCDIMs, easily obtained in clinical settings, are valuable predictors of disease severity and the 28-day mortality in COVID-19 patients. The NLR is particularly effective for disease severity, while the LCR is highly predictive of 28-day mortality. These markers provide guidance for stratified management of COVID-19 patients.

To evaluate the acceptability of two co-designed mobile applications Mit Sygehus [a knowledge-based solution] and Genoptræn.dk [a self-training solution] to support a cross-sectoral, person-centred and empowering stroke rehabilitation. ⋯ Stroke survivors and their significant others found Mit Sygehus and Genoptræn.dk acceptable to support cross-sectoral, person-centred and empowering stroke rehabilitation, however acceptability declined throughout the rehabilitation process. Further investigations are required to determine how cognitive rehabilitation can play a greater role in app-supported stroke rehabilitation and how the need for more long-term follow-up can be supported.

Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is the mainstay of treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with multiple brain metastases (BMs); however, the BRAIN study showed that the efficacy of WBRT is unsatisfactory. This prospective phase II study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of WBRT combined with anlotinib, a novel anti-angiogenic multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), in patients with multiple BMs (>3) from advanced NSCLC. ⋯ Anlotinib combined with WBRT is effective and well-tolerated in patients with NSCLC with multiple BMs.
