ReviewNontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease: the top ten essentials.
This review will utilize essential questions about nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease to succinctly address important new developments in the pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of NTM lung disease with a focus on practical information and "bottom line" answers. 1) What do I tell my patients who ask, “where did I get this infection” and, “should I take showers”? 2) What is the connection between bronchiectasis and the acquisition of NTM lung infection? 3) What other factors are important in the pathogenesis of NTM lung disease? 4) Why does it seem that am I seeing more new NTM lung disease patients? 5) Why is the diagnosis of NTM lung disease so complicated and does the diagnosis of NTM lung infection obligate specific treatment? 6) Unlike traditional tuberculosis, what is behind the irrelevance of most in vitro susceptibility testing reports for NTM infections? 7) Is there anything new for the management of patients with Mycobacterium avium complex lung disease? How does the radiographic appearance influence treatment? 8) Is there anything new for the management of patients with Mycobacterium abscessus lung disease? 9) What about the management of other NTM respiratory pathogens? 10) Is there a role for the use of macrolide monotherapy for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis?

Review Meta AnalysisNocturnal noninvasive positive pressure ventilation in stable COPD: a systematic review and individual patient data meta-analysis.
The effects of nocturnal noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remain controversial. ⋯ At present, there is insufficient evidence to support the application of routine NIPPV in patients with stable COPD. However, higher IPAP levels, better compliance and higher baseline PaCO2 seem to improve PaCO2.

ReviewClinical characteristics of septic pulmonary embolism in adults: a systematic review.
To describe the clinical characteristics of septic pulmonary embolism in adults in order to improve its diagnosis and treatment. ⋯ SPE is a rare disease without specific clinical manifestations. For high-risk groups, such as intravenous drug users or patients with intravascular indwelling catheters, fever and imaging findings of multiple nodules or local infiltrates, with or without cavitation, are highly suggestive of SPE. Early diagnosis and prompt antimicrobial therapy or surgical intervention can lead to a successful treatment outcome.

ReviewSurvival after lung transplantation in systemic sclerosis. A systematic review.
Lung transplantation is a life-saving option for systemic sclerosis (SSc)-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) patients. However, some programs may be concerned about the possibility of excess post-transplantation mortality related to the extra-pulmonary manifestations of SSc. The objective of this study was to evaluate survival of SSc patients post-lung transplantation. We secondarily evaluated SSc lung transplant recipient characteristics (age, sex, and type of SSc lung disease), and discussed post-lung transplantation survival of SSc patients and non-SSc patients (idiopathic PAH, and ILD). ⋯ The short-term and intermediate-term survival post-lung transplantation are similar to IPAH and ILD patients requiring lung transplantation.

ReviewMounier-Kuhn syndrome or congenital tracheobronchomegaly: a literature review.
Mounier-Kuhn syndrome or congenital tracheobronchomegaly is a chronic airway condition which for currently unknown reasons mostly affects males. It is commonly overlooked on conventional chest X-rays, and is considered to be rare, but the prevalence might be higher as commonly assumed. ⋯ Due to the lack of clinical trials and wide variability of case-report format, a systematic review was deemed not feasible, therefore PubMed and Medline databases were searched using terms "Mounier-Kuhn syndrome", "tracheobronchomegaly", "tracheomegaly", and "bronchomegaly", without any time restrictions, to summarize currently known facts about the syndrome. To the authors' best knowledge, the result is currently the most comprehensive review of previously published literature about the congenital tracheobronchomegaly, and summarizes what's known about symptoms, prevalence, disease associations, and treatment options for this syndrome.
