Doxazosin versus tizanidine for treatment of dysfunctional voiding in children: a prospective randomized open-labeled trial.
To examine the efficacy and tolerability of tizanidine for the treatment of dysfunctional voiding in children compared with those of doxazosin. ⋯ Tizanidine could be a safe and effective treatment of children with dysfunctional voiding due to pelvic floor/skeletal sphincter dysfunction. More placebo-controlled trails with larger sample sizes are needed.

The effect of noise-cancelling headphones or music on pain perception and anxiety in men undergoing transrectal prostate biopsy.
To assess the effect of noise-cancelling headphones with or without music on patient pain and anxiety associated with routine, office-based transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy in a prospective randomized study. ⋯ Music-induced attention shift during prostate biopsy may have a beneficial impact on procedural anxiety and pain perception, but no apparent effect was noted for use of headphones alone. Further studies are necessary to explore strategies to reduce perceived anxiety and pain in men undergoing prostate biopsy.

Wound infiltration with bupivacaine and intramuscular diclofenac reduces postoperative tramadol consumption in patients undergoing radical retropubic prostatectomy: a prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study.
To assess the impact of wound infiltration with bupivacaine and i.m. diclofenac administration on patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) tramadol consumptions and postoperative pain in patients who underwent radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP) under general anesthesia. Previous studies have found only limited or no benefits of local anesthetics for postoperative opioid consumption and pain relief after RRP. ⋯ This prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study demonstrated that wound infiltration with bupivacaine during surgical closure combined with i.m. diclofenac administration might decrease in 24 hours with PCA tramadol consumption in patients who underwent RRP under general anesthesia.

A prospective, randomized controlled study comparing lidocaine and tramadol in periprostatic nerve blockage for transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy.
To assess the efficacy of tramadol and lidocaine in reducing pain using the periprostatic nerve block technique with a spinal needle, guided by transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) before the biopsy application. ⋯ In this study, we showed that the local anesthetic effect of tramadol in decreasing pain in periprostatic nerve block during TRUS-guided biopsy. The use of tramadol for pain relief in transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy is a practical, effective, and comfortable method compared with the results of the control group.

Zoledronic Acid improves clinical outcomes when administered before onset of bone pain in patients with prostate cancer.
To evaluate, in an exploratory analysis, the effect of zoledronic acid (ZOL) on skeletal-related event (SRE) incidence as determined by the bone pain levels at study entry. Bone metastases can undermine skeletal integrity long before the onset of symptoms. Treating patients before symptom onset might be more effective in preventing SREs and improving patients' quality of life. ZOL has shown significant reductions in SREs and pain compared with placebo in patients with bone metastases from advanced prostate cancer in a randomized placebo-controlled trial. ⋯ ZOL reduced bone pain and SREs compared with placebo in patients with bone metastases from castration-resistant prostate cancer, irrespective of the baseline pain status, and appeared more efficacious when initiated before the onset of pain.
