Frequency of second stage intervention and its outcome in relation with instrumental vaginal delivery versus caesarean section.
To determine the frequency of second stage intervention and the risk of maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality associated with instrumental vaginal deliveries versus caesarean section in our tertiary care set up. ⋯ The frequency of second stage intervention seems high in our set up and is associated with significant maternal and perinatal morbidity. Maternal morbidity was more frequent abdominal delivery while neonatal morbidity and mortality was more frequent with instrumental delivery.

Severe acute maternal morbidity and intensive care in a public sector university hospital of Pakistan.
The study was planned to review the case series of pregnant women requiring intensive care due to severe acute maternal morbidity in the public sector university hospital, in order to identify failures and priorities in maternal health care provision in Pakistan. ⋯ Maternal morbidity and mortality can be reduced by meticulous adaptation of safe motherhood initiative, provision of separate ICU services for critically ill obstetrical patients and early assessment and aggressive intervention through a team approach involving obstetricians, intensivists and anaesthetists.

Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Its causes & risk factors are important for its prevention and management. Poor, unhealthy, high parity women delivering away from health facility are usual victims. The purpose of this study is to determine causes of PPH, risk factors, preventable factors and to assess treatment measures adopted. ⋯ PPH can be prevented by avoiding unnecessary inductions/augmentations of labour, risk factors assessment and active management of 3rd stage of labour. It needs critical judgment, early referral and early resuscitation by birth attendant. There is room for temponade and compression sutures. Hysterectomy should be the last option.

Comparative StudyComparision between bed side testing of blood glucose by glucometer vs centralized testing in a tertiary care hospital.
To determine the accuracy, turnaround time and cost effectiveness of bedside monitoring of blood glucose levels by non-laboratory health care workers and centralized testing of blood glucose by automated analyzer in a tertiary care hospital. ⋯ Bedside glucometer testing, though less expensive does not have good accuracy in acutely ill patient with either very high or very low blood glucose levels.
