Necrotising fasciitis and sepsis caused by the infection of vibrio is a rare but dangerous clinical emergency, with a mortality of 50-100%. Early diagnosis and surgical treatment may improve the prognosis significantly. However, valid emergency operation indications are scarce and need to be explored, which will be helpful for the early recognition and selection of operational procedures in patients with vibrio necrotising fasciitis. ⋯ Rapidly progressive local damage and acute deterioration of the patients are the most distinctive clinical manifestations of vibrio necrotising fasciitis. Recognition of the signs of local skin and tissue damage in early stage is crucial for early diagnosis and surgical intervention. Emergency incision and drainage, combined with selective debridement and skin graft, could improve the prognosis of the patients, and preserve the integrity of the patient's limbs as much as possible.

The basis for qualitative changes concerning everyday clinical practice are created from epidemiological studies, which not only generalize situations but at the same time provide specific details of the country's features; especially during periods of social transition. The aim of this study was to present demographic and epidemiological features of severe burns treated in the Service of Burns in UHC (University Hospital Center) in Albania and to analyze burn mortality as an important outcome measure. ⋯ The long-term studies and the comparison of our results with the ones of other burn centers has allowed us to determine the actual level of care and as well as to build up contemporary protocols in order to improve the treatment with the objection of decreasing the mortality.

Cerium nitrate (CN) was used as a topical antiseptic agent for the treatment of burn wounds and found to reduce the number of anticipated death in burn. This decreased burn related mortality cannot be explained by the control of wound infection alone. In the studies performed to elucidate the unexplained effects of CN treatment, it was shown that CN treatment reduced the alarm cytokine levels, decreased leukocyte activation, reduced macromolecular leakage and finally burn edema formation. ⋯ The difference between the groups was also statistically significant (p≤0.05). These results were accepted that CN treatment prevents progressive tissue necrosis in the zone of stasis. This study further elucidates the unexplained effects of CN treatment on burn.

To identify the basic epidemiological characteristics of children hospitalized with diagnosis of Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome in the Czech Republic in the years 1994-2009. ⋯ In our retrospective study, we established basic epidemiological characteristics of a group of children aged under 1 year with diagnosis of SSSS. As epidemiological data show, the occurrence of this syndrome is not sporadic, but steady.

Staphylococcus aureus has been recognized as an important human pathogen and is the major cause of nosocomial infections. Various strains of S. aureus produce bicomponent toxins such as LukE/D, and PVL. The toxins subunits bind to leukocyte cell membrane inducing trans-membrane pore formation and subsequent cell lysis. PVL is an example of these toxins and causes leukocyte destruction and tissue necrosis. It seems that S. aureus strains comprising LukE/D and PVL genes are more important in the disease process and associated with severe skin diseases, fatal pneumonia and osteomyelitis with high morbidity and mortality. ⋯ There were PVL and LukE/D positive MRSA isolates with high prevalence in evaluated hospital. Since resulting diseases from these bacteria are severe and may even lead to death, the prevention of disease progress is desired by early diagnosis and proper treatment.
