Pseudomonas aeruginosa is resistant to many antibiotics due to production of different classes of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs). Prevalence of ESBLs among P. aeruginosa has been increased in recent years, demonstrate a serious health problem especially in burn units worldwide. ⋯ The rate of ESBL producing P. aeruginosa was notable in present study. Since there are only limited effective antibiotics against the bacterium, therefore all isolates must be investigated by antimicrobial susceptibility testing, which limits resistance development in burn units and helps the management of treatment strategy.

Acid violence is the deliberate use of acid to attack another human being. Such attacks leave a terrible human, medical and surgical legacy. This study, from one of the largest cohorts of acid attack victims to date, provides insights into Cambodia's unique demographics of such attacks, as well as the human cost and necessary surgical interventions. ⋯ Acid violence in Cambodia has a complex demographic which is different to many other developing countries and requires more investigation. Tougher legislation is required to reduce the incidence of these horrific crimes.

A review of treatment strategies for hydrofluoric acid burns: Current status and future prospects.
Hydrofluoric acid (HF), a dangerous inorganic acid, can cause severe corrosive effects and systemic toxicity. HF enters the human body via where it contacts, such as skin and mucosa, alimentary and respiratory tracts, and ocular surfaces. In the recent years, the incidence of HF burn has tended to increase over time. ⋯ Whereas, management of patients with HF burns remains a great challenge in some situations. To date, there has been no widely accepted protocol for the rescue of HF burns, partly due to the diversity of HF burns. This paper overviews the current status and problems of treatment strategies for HF burns, for the purpose of promoting the future researches and improvement.

Obesity is an important predictor of mortality and morbidity during a hospital stay. There is very little data concerning the impact of the BMI on clinical outcomes in obese burn patients. The purpose of this study is to document the general epidemiological aspects of thermal injuries in an obese population and draw attention to topics relating to the management, rehabilitation and prognosis of burns in this emerging subpopulation of patients. ⋯ These facts indicate admission of these patients to a burn care unit for the best possible treatment although they might not always fulfill criteria for admission to burn intensive care unit. Burn centers must be also prepared in terms of special nursing equipment for obese patients.

Skin is a dynamic and complex organ that relies on the interaction of different cell types, biomacromolecules and signaling molecules. Injury triggers a cascade of events designed to quickly restore skin integrity. ⋯ Exogenous insulin application has therefore been investigated as a potential therapeutic intervention for nearly a century to improve wound recovery. This review will highlight the important achievements that demonstrate insulin's ability to stimulate cellular migration and burn wound recovery, as well as providing a perspective on future therapeutic applications and research directions.
