Hands are frequent sites of burn but few related studies were reported in China. The aim of this study was to examine the impacts of gender, age, seasons, place, etiology, total body surface area (TBSA), depth, infection and comorbidities on prognosis following injury in a cohort of hand burn inpatients. This is a retrospective study of total 378 inpatients admitted to the burn center of Changhai hospital from January 2009 to December 2013. ⋯ The main factors relevant to amputation were identified including the electrical burns and other etiology of burns. In addition, depth of hand burns was proved to have a higher impact on length of hospital stay (LOS) than other factors. The results of this study not only provide the necessary information of hand burns in Eastern China but also give the suggestions for the prevention of hand burns.

Observational Study
Influence of the central venous site on the transpulmonary thermodilution parameters in critically ill burn patients.
The aim of this study was to verify the measurement concordance of cardiac index (CI), extra-vascular lung water index (EVLWI) and global end diastolic volume index (GEDVI) with transpulmonary thermodilution (TPTD) between the jugular and femoral access with catheters inserted ipsilaterally in critically ill burn patients. Correlations were excellent and the concordance was good for the CI, EVLW and GEDVI (mean bias -0.11 L/min/m², -0.3 mL/kg and -20 mL/m² for CI, EVLW and GEDVI, respectively). We conclude that ipsilateral arterial and venous femoral and jugular measurement of TPTD parameters can be used interchangeably if catheters with different lengths on the femoral site are used.

Self-immolation is a common method of suicide among Iranian women. There are several contributing motives for attempting self-immolation, and exploration of the process of self-immolation incidents will help interventionists and clinicians develop prevention programs. ⋯ The conceptual model, derived through grounded theory study, can guide design of prevention programs. The pivotal role of family conflicts should be emphasized in mental health interventions. The impact of adverse consequences of self-immolation on further suicidal processes necessitates post-suicide prevention programs. Further research to design specific interventions is recommended.

Pediatric burns research has increasingly been recognized as a sub-specialty of its own. The aim of this study was to assess and analyze the publication patterns of the pediatric burns literature over the last six decades. ⋯ Pediatric burns research has evolved from an associated, dispersed entity into a consolidated sub-specialty that has been successfully integrated into mainstream burns journals.
