Aberrant biofunction of circular RNAs (circRNAs) is potently implicated in keloid formation. However, their roles have been underinvestigated. Recent evidence has demonstrated the pro-tumor role of circ_0000129 in cancers, and yet its role in keloid remains elusive. ⋯ All data generated or analyzed during this study are included in this article.

Quick, easy access to data-driven community risk assessment principles and to related community risk reduction activities can encourage fire departments to learn about, conduct, and complete district risk reduction practices. With the ultimate goal of creating web-based community risk assessment and community risk reduction resources, we first evaluated fire department needs. ⋯ Respondents described data use for community risk assessment and for planning community risk reduction activities; how a lack of time, personnel, and funding impacts community risk assessment and community risk reduction activities; and how to involve both firefighters and the community in the process. Innovative solutions such as a website containing resources on how to assess community risk information along with resources such as community risk assessment/ reduction education, program planning, and tools, can assist departments to use community risk assessment data in the development of community risk reduction activities.

Although several studies have investigated models of nerve electrical injury, only a few have focused on electrical injury to peripheral nerves, which is a common and intractable problem in clinical practice. Here, we describe an experimental rat model of peripheral nerve electrical injury and its assessment. ⋯ We presented a model of peripheral nerve electrical injury that avoided the interference of various external factors, such as current instability, compression of the surrounding tissues, and altered blood supply. The model allowed quantitation and ranking of the nerve injury into four degrees. It facilitated effective evaluation of nerve function impairment and repair after injury. It can be used post-surgically to evaluate peripheral nerve impairment and reconstruction and enables translational interpretation of results, which may improve understanding of the mechanisms underlying the progression of peripheral nerve electrical injury.

Burn survivors undergoing complex glycemic derangements in the acute period after burn are at significantly increased risk of worse outcomes. Although most critical care investigations recommend intensive glycemic control to prevent morbidity and mortality, conflicting recommendations exist. To date, no literature review has studied outcomes associated with intensive glucose control in the burn intensive care unit (ICU) population. ⋯ A majority of the studies (6/8) reported higher risk for hypoglycemia with tight glucose control, but few reported instances of adverse sequela associated with hypoglycemia. Intensive glucose control may provide benefit to burn patients, but complications associated with hypoglycemia must be considered. This review recommends an individualized patient-centered approach factoring comorbidities, burn injury characteristics, and risk factors when determining whether to employ intensive glucose control.
