This study interrogates infection related data in the Burns Registry of Australia and New Zealand (BRANZ), to examine associations of multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) and blood stream infection (BSI). ⋯ The low rate and patterns of acquisition of MDROs of interest and BSIs is comparable with reports from countries with low incidence of massive burns. Wider adoption of a standardized laboratory reporting framework would help realise the potential of clinical quality registries to provide data which supports evidence based infection prevention initiatives.

During 2022-2023, the UK found itself in the midst of a domestic energy crisis, with the average domestic gas and electricity bill rising by 75% between 2019 and 2022. As a result, the use of hot water bottles, radiant heaters, and electric blankets increased. An unintended consequence of this may be an increase in burn injuries caused by misfortune, misuse, or the use of items in a state of disrepair. ⋯ The number of injuries sustained by people using personal heating equipment is significantly increasing, which correlated with the rise in domestic energy prices. The most affected demographic appears to be working age adults, with wider implications around lost work-time yet to be explored. Further prospective, population-based work is indicated to assess the strength of the correlation seen in this study.

Pediatric burns are associated with socioeconomic disadvantage and lead to significant morbidity. The Child Opportunity Index (COI) is a well-validated measure of neighborhood characteristics associated with healthy child development. We sought to evaluate the relationship between COI and outcomes of burn injuries in children. ⋯ Retrospective study LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III.

Approximately 120,000 children in the United States are evaluated in the emergency department annually due to burn injuries. Studies have consistently documented that pediatric burns are among the most stressful events for caregivers, resulting in a wide range of emotions, including guilt, anxiety, grief, depression, and posttraumatic stress symptoms, as well as positive psychological changes, a phenomenon known as posttraumatic growth. The present pilot study aimed to explore the prevalence of elevated perceived stress as well as posttraumatic growth among caregivers of pediatric burn patients receiving outpatient burn care and using an mHealth burn platform to administer burn treatment. ⋯ Further, approximately half of the caregiver sample reported moderate to high levels of posttraumatic growth following their child's burn injury. This pilot study clarifies the level of the perceived stress that caregivers of burn-injured children experience, particularly during the treatment phase when they are responsible for their children's outpatient burn care (e.g., dressing changes). Additionally, the results shed light on the high prevalence of moderate to high posttraumatic growth in caregivers, with a prevalence rate similar to other trauma survivors.

Scar contracture bands after burns are frequent problems that cause discomfort and physical limitation. This study investigates the efficacy of a minimally invasive contracture band release technique (MICBR) inspired by closed platysmotomy. ⋯ This MICBR technique is a versatile, safe, and well-tolerated adjunct procedure that can help patients regain mobility after a burn injury.
