The effect of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy in the treatment of burn scars: A prospective, randomized, controlled trial.
Current scientific evidence on the effect of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) as adjunctive treatment for burn scars is scarce. However preliminary evidence, indicates it might prove a useful tool. ⋯ Our study questions the relevance of ESWT as adjunctive treatment for burn scars as far as outward appearance, pain and pruritus as end-results are concern. Nonetheless, further studies are required to accurately assess the potential benefits of ESWT as an adjunctive treatment for burn scars.

Efficacy and costs of nanocrystalline silver dressings versus 1% silver sulfadiazine dressings to treat burns in adults in the outpatient setting: A randomized clinical trial.
Nanocrystalline silver dressings can reduce the number of changes, facilitating burn wound management. However, the evidence regarding their efficacy and cost-consequences compared to well-established treatments, such as 1% silver sulfadiazine, is still scarce. ⋯ We found no evidence of a difference between nanocrystalline silver and 1% silver sulfadiazine dressings regarding efficacy and safety outcomes. Nanocrystalline silver dressings were associated with an increase in the total costs, but they could result in important savings for an institution (less changes of dressings, reducing human resources burden), especially if acquisition costs can be decreased. Additional cost-effectiveness studies are warranted.

Clinical and functional efficacy of gallium-arsenide super pulsed laser therapy on temporo mandibular joint pain with orofacial myalgia following healed unilateral cervicofacial burn - A randomized trial.
Cervicofacial burn (CB) is a unique type of burn, involving the lateral part of the face, neck and chest region with significant skin contractures. Temporomandibular joint (TJ) pain and orofacial myalgia (OM) are the major problems in physiotherapy context to treat. Laser is commonly used as an adjunct therapy in painful conditions. However, clinical studies are lacking in investigating the effects of gallium-arsenide (Ga-As) super pulsed laser therapy on temporomandibular joint pain and orofacial myalgia following healed cervicofacial burn patients. ⋯ The reports of this study proved that, four weeks active laser therapy with regular physiotherapy care has an ideal treatment protocol for temporomandibular joint pain with orofacial myalgia following healed cervicofacial burn. This study also provided a new knowledge for physiotherapists in the field of temporomandibular joint pain rehabilitation.

Graded aerobic exercise (GAEx): An effective exercise regimen to improve cardio-respiratory fitness and physical and psychosocial functioning in children with burn sequelae of the chest.
The cardio-respiratory function is compromised in children recovering from burns, particularly, those who sustain a burn injury across the chest, which leads to further prejudicial effects on physical and psychosocial health. This study endeavored to explore the efficacy of 12 weeks of graded aerobic exercise (GAEx) on the cardiorespiratory capacity and physical and psychosocial functioning in children with burn sequelae of the chest. ⋯ Twelve weeks of GAEx has salutary effects on cardio-respiratory capacity and physical and psychosocial functioning in children with burn sequelae of the chest. These findings suggest that adding GAEx as a complementary therapy to the long-term rehabilitation protocol for this patient population is worthwhile.

Virtual reality as a pain distractor during physical rehabilitation in pediatric burns.
The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effect of adding Virtual reality (VR) to conventional burn rehabilitation program on pain and range of motion (ROM) in children with burn injuries during rehabilitation sessions after burn.
