Individual-level socioeconomic disparities impact burn-related incidence, severity and outcomes. However, the impact of community-level socioeconomic disparities on recovery after burn injury is poorly understood. As a result, we are not yet able to develop individual- and community-specific strategies to optimize recovery. Therefore, we aimed to characterize the association between community-level socioeconomic disparities and long-term, health-related quality of life after burn injury. ⋯ Community distress is associated with lower PCS at 6 months after burn injury but no association with MCS was identified. Pre-injury HRQOL is associated with both PCS and MCS after injury. Further study of the factors underlying the relationship between community distress and physical functional recovery (e.g., access to rehabilitation services, availability of adaptations) is required to identify potential interventions.

Circumferential deep burns on the limb lead to a constrictive, tourniquet-like effect causing critical limb ischaemia. The treatment, escharotomy, is a time-critical procedure that sometimes is required before the patient arrives at a burn centre. At present, no practical method of teaching this procedure is incorporated into formal educational courses. ⋯ We developed a comprehensive simulator course that has been demonstrated to improve candidate's confidence in performing escharotomy. The next stage in the course development is to confirm the results in a larger cohort. By developing this simulator course we aim to improve emergency burn care education in the UK and globally.

Intermittent Fasting (IF) has proved to have various positive effects on life span, diseases, and healing of tissues in rodents. We evaluated the protective effect of fasting in maintaining the ischemic zones in burn wounds. ⋯ Intermittent fasting before burn wounds reduces tissue damage caused by ischemia and enhanced the viability of cells in zone of stasis. It also accelerated wound healing by increasing epithelialization and collagen production in the skin and regulating inflammatory responses. This intervention appears to be related to better collagen arrangement and angiogenesis.
