Recombinant FVIIa decreases perioperative blood transfusion requirement in burn patients undergoing excision and skin grafting--results of a single centre pilot study.
Excision of burn wounds is frequently associated with a large volume of blood loss requiring allogeneic blood transfusion. We conducted a pilot study to investigate the effect of activated recombinant coagulation factor VII (rFVIIa) on the reduction of blood transfusion requirements in burn patients undergoing excision and skin grafting. ⋯ rFVIIa might be useful in decreasing blood transfusion requirements in burn patients undergoing excision and skin grafting.

Enteral resuscitation and early enteral feeding in children with major burns--effect on McFarlane response to stress.
Early enteral feeding has become standard practice for burned patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether early enteral feeding could be used as an avenue for resuscitation and feeding and the effect it would have on the induction/amelioration of the hormonal stress response. ⋯ Enteral resuscitation and early enteral feeding is a safe and effective method and particularly suited for children in developing countries. It resulted in the amelioration of the hormonal stress response and improved outcome. Enteral resuscitation should not be introduced in a patient in shock or with existing gastrointestinal disease. Complications were minimal.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
A randomized comparative trial between Acticoat and SD-Ag in the treatment of residual burn wounds, including safety analysis.
To investigate and evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Acticoat with nanocrystalline silver for external use on the management of the residual wounds post-burn. ⋯ Acticoat with nanocrystalline silver promotes the healing process of residual wounds post-burn effectively. No adverse reaction of Acticoat was found during the study.

Suprathel-an innovative, resorbable skin substitute for the treatment of burn victims.
Autologous split skin grafts are the most reliable method for closing third degree burns. Under this scheme, donor sites as well as second degree burns under conservative treatment, however, would benefit from rapid wound closure. For this treatment, biological as well as synthetic materials are available. ⋯ The Suprathel membrane adhered rapidly to the wound thus protecting against infections and promoting wound healing. No allergic reactions were observed. The ability of the material to resorb ensured pain-free removal after complete healing of the wound.

Effects of early enteral arginine supplementation on resuscitation of severe burn patients.
To investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of l-arginine (l-Arg) on shock in severely burned patients. ⋯ Enteral feeding with l-arginine supplementation on early stage of burn decreases NO production to a relatively normal level and exerts beneficial effects on the resuscitation of burned shock.
