Wound healing is a physiological process that results in the reconstruction and restoration of granulation tissue, followed by scar formation. We explored the impact of fatty acids in the form of oils on wound healing since they are part of membrane phospholipids and participate in the inflammatory response. This work investigated the efficiency of fatty acids extracted from microalga Parachlorella kessleri in treating excisional wounds and burns and evaluated their antioxidant activity. ⋯ Histopathological analysis showed that angiogenesis, collagen fiber formation, and epidermis creation were some of the healing indicators that improved. The key elements for this healing property are omega -3 fatty acids, and both P. kessleri oils extracted from control and glycine culture have significant wound-healing effects. Oil of glycine culture of P. kessleri, however, displayed superior results in this regard.

Severe burns are devastating injuries with significant immune dysfunction and result in substantial mortality and morbidity due to sepsis induced organ failure. Acute lung injury is the most common type of organ injury in sepsis, however, the mechanisms of which are poorly understood and effective therapeutic measures are limited. This study is aimed to investigate the effect of a small Guanosine triphosphatase (GTPase), Adenosine diphosphate ribosylation factor 6 (ARF6), on burn sepsis induced lung injury, and discuss the possible mechanisms. ⋯ ARF6 inhibition preserved vascular integrity by restoring expression of VE-cadherin and suppressed the spread of inflammation by affecting phagocytosis of ASC specks, thus protected against sepsis induced lung injury and improve survival of burn septic animals. The findings of this study implied potential therapeutics by which ARF6 inhibition can protect lung function from septic induced lung injury and improve outcomes in burn sepsis.

Improvement in burn injury data collections and the quality of databanks has allowed meaningful study of the epidemiologic trends in burn care. The study assessed factors associated with disposition of burn injury patients from emergency department accounting for pre-hospital care and emergency care. ⋯ The study provides insight into emergency burn care and associated factors that influenced outcomes for patients with burn injuries.

Heterotopic ossification (HO), or ectopic bone formation in soft tissue, is a not so rare and poorly understood debilitating sequela of burn injury. Individuals developing HO following burn injuries to their hands often experience reductions in mobility, significant contractures, and joint pain. This study identifies demographic characteristics of individuals who develop HO and compares their physical and psychosocial outcomes to the general burn population. ⋯ 2b TYPE OF STUDY: Symptom Prevalence Study.

Exploring the similarities and differences of burn registers globally: Results from a data dictionary comparison study.
Pooling and comparing data from the existing global network of burn registers represents a powerful, yet untapped, opportunity to improve burn prevention and care. There have been no studies investigating whether registers are sufficiently similar to allow data comparisons. It is also not known what differences exist that could bias analyses. Understanding this information is essential prior to any future data sharing. The aim of this project was to compare the variables collected in countrywide and intercountry burn registers to understand their similarities and differences. ⋯ We found some commonalities between registers and some differences. Commonalities would assist in any future efforts to pool and compare data between registers. Differences between registers could introduce selection and measurement bias, which needs to be addressed in any strategy aiming to facilitate burn register data sharing. We recommend the development of common data elements used in an international minimum data set for burn injuries, including standard definitions and methods of measurement, as the next step in achieving burn register data sharing.
