The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess the clinical effectiveness of nanocrystalline silver compared to alternative silver delivery systems (silver sulphadiazine [SSD] and silver nitrate) in adults and children with superficial and deep partial thickness burns. ⋯ This comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of the available evidence suggest that the use of nanocrystalline silver dressings results in shorter length of stay in hospital, less pain, fewer surgical procedures and reduced infection rates compared to silver sulphadiazine/silver nitrate.

Albumin administration for fluid resuscitation in burn patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The objective was to systematically review the literature summarizing the effect on mortality of albumin compared to non-albumin solutions during the fluid resuscitation phase of burn injured patients. ⋯ The pooled estimate demonstrated a neutral effect on mortality in burn patients resuscitated acutely with albumin solutions. Due to limited evidence and uncertainty, an adequately powered, high quality trial could be required to assess the impact of albumin solutions on mortality in burn patients.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of complications and outcomes of obese patients with burns.
Obesity has been described as a factor that contributes to poorer outcomes and more severe complications in burned patients. We thus aimed to meta-analyse the literature present regarding the extent to which obesity contributes to the prevalence of various complications in burns. We searched MEDLINE, Science Direct and Web of Science for 363 articles. ⋯ Number of wound infections, number of burn operations and length of ICU stay were not found to be statistically different. We postulate that our significant findings are due to the proinflammatory state and poorer glycemic control in obese patients. As our review was limited by the few articles currently available in the literature, it is suggested that more studies of high quality be performed to better understand the implications of obesity in burns.

Diagnostic accuracy of laser Doppler imaging in burn depth assessment: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Accurate assessment of burn depth is important for determination of treatment modality. Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is known to be an objective and effective measurement tool in burn depth assessment. Our study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of LDI across enrolled studies and subgroups. ⋯ Although LDI in burn depth assessment was identified as an accurate measurement tool in this meta-analysis, careful clinical assessment should be performed along with LDI in patients with deep burns.

The efficacy and safety of oxandrolone treatment for patients with severe burns: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of using oxandrolone in patients with severe burns. ⋯ The treatment of severe burns with oxandrolone is significantly effective without obvious side effects.
