18F-NaF-PET/CT for the detection of bone metastasis in prostate cancer: a meta-analysis of diagnostic accuracy studies.
This meta-analysis aims to establish the diagnostic performance of 18F-NaF-PET/CT for the detection of bone metastases in prostate cancer patients. The performance of 18F-NaF-PET/CT was compared with other imaging techniques in the same cohort of patients. ⋯ 18F-NaF-PET/CT has excellent diagnostic performance in the detection of bone metastases in staging and restaging of high-risk prostate cancer patients. The performance of 18F-NaF-PET/CT is superior to 99mTc bone scintigraphy and SPECT, and comparable to DWI-MRI.

Comparison between single photon emission computed tomography with computed tomography and planar scintigraphy in sentinel node biopsy in breast cancer patients.
Radio-guided sentinel node (SN) biopsy is a standard method used in the treatment of early breast cancer. Single photon emission computed tomography with computed tomography (SPECT/CT) has been commonly used for SN detection. SPECT/CT adds precise anatomical information of SN sites, and it is reported that more SNs may be detectable on SPECT/CT than on planar imaging. We here investigate which breast cancer patients have benefited from SPECT/CT over planar imaging. ⋯ Multiple-view planar imaging was equivalent to SPECT/CT for depicting hot nodes for radio-guided SN detection in breast cancer. SPECT/CT was useful when precise anatomical information was necessary, especially regarding sentinel lymph nodes other than ipsilateral axilla. Logistic regression analysis revealed that axillary surgery (dissection) increased the visualization of para-sternal and level II, III axillary nodes, and the only relevant factor influencing visualization of contralateral axillary SNs was previous radiation to the breast.

We evaluated the uptake of 2-deoxy-2-18F-fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) and L-[methyl-11C]-methionine (MET) in patients with newly diagnosed intracranial meningiomas and correlated the results with tumor proliferation. ⋯ MET PET/CT showed a high sensitivity compared with FDG PET/CT for detection of newly diagnosed WHO grades I and II intracranial meningiomas. Both FDG and MET uptake were found to be useful for evaluating tumor proliferation in meningiomas.

Accuracy of brain perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography for detecting misery perfusion in adult patients with symptomatic ischemic moyamoya disease.
The purpose of the present study was to determine how accurately relative cerebral blood flow (RCBF) and relative cerebrovascular reactivity (RCVR) to acetazolamide assessed using brain perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) detected misery perfusion identified on positron emission tomography (PET) in adult patients with ischemic moyamoya disease (MMD). ⋯ RCBF assessed using brain perfusion SPECT detects misery perfusion with high sensitivity, a high negative-predictive value, and a low positive-predictive value in adult patients with ischemic MMD. The accuracy of RCVR to acetazolamide assessed using brain perfusion SPECT is lower than that of RCBF.

The diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is often challenging, since similar clinical features and laboratory findings can be observed in several inflammatory conditions. PMR involves affected sites in a specific manner, and 18F-FDG PET/CT has the advantage for assessing the disease activity of each site. The purpose of this study was to identify the patterns of 18F-FDG uptake that suggest the diagnosis of PMR. ⋯ 18F-FDG uptake distribution patterns and morphology can contribute to the diagnosis of PMR. Significant 18F-FDG uptake in the sternoclavicular joints is one of the characteristic findings in patients with PMR as well as the uptake in the shoulders, ischial tuberosities, and greater trochanters. "Y"-shaped spinous process uptake may be one of the specific findings for PMR.
