High definition three-dimensional exoscope (VITOM 3D) for microsurgery training: a preliminary experience.
To assess the feasibility of a high definition 3D exoscope (VITOM®) for microsurgery training in a cohort of naïve medical students. ⋯ This study demonstrated the feasibility of a VITOM-based microsurgery training. The students' subjective assessment of the VITOM® 3D system was promising in terms of technological quality and technical feasibility. Further studies are recommended to define which VITOM® holding system could be more appropriate for microsurgery training.

Review Meta AnalysisTherapeutic modalities and oncologic outcomes in the treatment of T1b glottic squamous cell carcinoma: a systematic review.
T1a and T1b glottic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are often analyzed together by authors who investigate the oncologic outcomes achieved after different therapeutic options. Nevertheless, T1b definitely represents a more advanced tumor stage compared to T1a glottic SCC. The objective of this review was first to analyze the overall success rates in the treatment of patients affected by T1b glottic SCC. ⋯ Regarding the specific therapeutic options, our subgroup analysis showed as patients treated with TLM present a higher rate of oncological recurrence in comparison to those who underwent RT or OPL. Nevertheless, on the basis of our data it was also noted that no significant differences subsist in terms of survival rates among the three different treatments. Moreover, the absence of a comparative analysis useful to confirm these conclusions must be considered.

Identifying and prioritizing technical procedures in otorhinolaryngology for simulation-based training: a national needs assessment in Denmark.
To conduct a national needs assessment using a structured approach to identify and prioritize technical skills and procedures in otorhinolaryngology (ORL) for simulation-based training. ⋯ As educational decisions are increasingly required to be evidence-based, this study represents a structured approach to identifying procedures for simulation-based training in ORL. This information can be valuable in the development and implementation of simulation-based training programmes in the ORL residency training curriculum.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyComparison on effectiveness of trans-septal suturing versus nasal packing after septoplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This systematic review applied meta-analytic procedures to evaluate the curative effect of trans-septal suturing versus nasal packing after septoplasty. Computerized search of the published literature in PubMed, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, WANFANG, CNKI databases. Randomized trials investigating trans-septal suturing versus nasal packing following septoplasty in patients with deviated nasal septum. ⋯ Trans-septal suturing technology is not only associated with less patient pain, headache, and lower occurrence rate of adhesion after septoplasty but it also relates to higher patient satisfaction and an improved quality of life. The suturing technology can be used as a substitute for traditional nasal packing of the first-line treatment. More well-designed studies are needed to confirm the effect of trans-septal suturing following septoplasty.

Randomized Controlled TrialOlfactory dysfunction in acute rhinosinusitis: intranasal sodium hyaluronate as adjuvant treatment.
Acute rhinosinusitis (ARS) is defined as an inflammation of the mucosa of the nose and paranasal sinuses and affects 1-5 % of general population in Europe. Sinonasal diseases represent the main cause of smell alterations in adult patients and lead to mucosal congestion, increased quantity and density of secretions and altered mucociliary transport. For this reason the odorous molecules contained in the inspired air, cannot interact with the olfactory epithelium. ⋯ At T2 Group A MCTt was significantly lower than in Group B; odour threshold improved in both groups but in Group A was still significantly higher than in Group B. No statistical differences between two groups regarding odour discrimination and odour identification were confirmed at T1 and T2. VASy score showed statistically significant differences between the two groups only for nasal discharge.
