The effect of COPD on the incidence and mortality of hospitalized patients with pulmonary embolism: A nationwide population-based study (2016-2018).
To examine the incidence, clinical characteristics, and in-hospital outcomes of pulmonary embolism (PE) among hospitalized patients with or without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Spain, and to identify predictors of in-hospital-mortality (IHM) after PE among patients with and without COPD. ⋯ Our results revealed that incidence of PE was higher in COPD patients than in those without COPD. Furthermore, COPD was a risk factor for IHM after PE.

Long-term recurrence risk after a first venous thromboembolism in men and women under 50 years old: A French prospective cohort.
Data on long-term venous thromboembolism (VTE) recurrence risk according to gender are conflicting. ⋯ In patients with a first VTE under 50 years old, a first unprovoked episode and a family history of VTE, but not gender, were associated with a high risk of long-term recurrence.

Serum uric acid and mortality thresholds among men and women in the Irish health system: A cohort study.
Elevation of serum uric acid (SUA) is associated with increased mortality; however, controversy exists regarding the nature of the relationship and differences between men and women. We explored relationships of SUA levels with all-cause mortality in a large cohort of patients within the Irish health system. ⋯ Mortality patterns attributed to SUA differ between men and women. Optimal survival was associated with SUA concentrations of 304-454 µmol/L for men and < 409 µmol/L for women.
