Meta AnalysisWeight-adjusted versus fixed dose heparin thromboprophylaxis in hospitalized obese patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Fixed dose unfractionated or low molecular weight heparin is the recommended treatment for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention in hospitalized patients. However, its efficacy has been questioned in obese population. Results of previous studies on weight-adjusted doses of heparin for VTE prevention are contradictory. Different anticoagulant regimens are used in clinical practice, but their role remains to be elucidated. ⋯ Weight-adjusted dose as compared to fixed-dose of heparins in the prevention of VTE in obese patients was not associated with a lower risk of VTE nor a higher risk of bleeding.

Meta AnalysisSafety of treatment with chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine: A ten-year systematic review and meta-analysis.
To estimate the incidence rate ratio (IRR) of adverse events (AE) in chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine users. ⋯ Our data reinforces that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have a good safety profile though caution is advised when using higher than usual doses in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Meta AnalysisEffect of SGLT-2 inhibitors on cardiovascular outcomes in heart failure patients: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
To investigate the overall effect of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) on cardiovascular outcomes in a broad spectrum of heart failure (HF) patients, and further stratified by status of ejection fraction and diabetes mellitus. ⋯ Compared with placebo, SGLT-2 inhibitors have remarkable cardiovascular benefits in a broad range of HF patients. Beneficial effects were robust in HF patients regardless of T2DM status, and a strong trend to be effective in HFpEF.

Meta AnalysisTGF-β1 +869T/C (rs1982073) gene polymorphism and susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis: Updated systematic review and meta-analysis.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a complex autoimmune disease that affects about 1% of the world's population. The conclusions about the relationship between TGF gene polymorphism and the risk of RA are still inconsistent. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to re-evaluate the relationship between TGF-β1 T869C gene polymorphism and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis.

Meta AnalysisAnakinra for patients with COVID-19: a meta-analysis of non-randomized cohort studies.
Severe COVID-19 cases have a detrimental hyper-inflammatory host response and different cytokine-blocking biologic agents were explored to improve outcomes. Anakinra blocks the activity of both IL-1α and IL‑1β and is approved for different autoinflammatory disorders, but it is used off-label for conditions characterized by an excess of cytokine production. Several studies on anakinra in COVID-19 patients reported positive effects. We performed a meta-analysis of all published evidence on the use of anakinra in COVID19 to investigate its effect on survival and need for mechanical ventilation. ⋯ Administration of anakinra in COVID-19 patients was safe and might be associated with reductions in both mortality and need for mechanical ventilation. Randomized clinical trials are warranted to confirm these findings.
