Multicenter Study Comparative StudyA cephalometric intercenter comparison of patients with unilateral cleft lip and palate: analysis at 5 and 10 years of age and long term.
To compare the short- and long-term craniofacial growth of patients operated with the Milan protocol to those operated with the Oslo protocol. ⋯ Although no statistically significant differences in the cephalometric measurements were found long term, the need for orthognathic surgery was clinically judged to be larger in the Milan sample. On the other hand, although the Milan protocol seemed to require more final jaw surgery, only the cases that needed an additional orthognathic procedure in the Milan group will undertake a third surgical step, while the Oslo protocol included three surgical steps for all the patients.

Multicenter StudyCraniofacial morphology of Dutch patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate and noncleft controls at the age of 15 years.
Comparison of craniofacial morphology in bilateral cleft lip and palate patients to that of a noncleft control group at the age of 15 years. ⋯ Bilateral cleft lip and palate patients treated in the Amsterdam and Rotterdam cleft centers differed significantly from the control group in all measurements. A Class III development due to a less forward positioned maxilla was observed. The vertical measurements indicated a more divergent growth pattern in bilateral cleft lip and palate patients (Ans-Me/N-Me, GoGn-SN, and SN-FFH).

Practice GuidelineQuality assurance guidelines for surgical outreach programs: a 20-year experience.
Numerous American volunteer organizations travel throughout the developing world, providing surgical services to those in need. Medical staff who undertake such missions must contend with the realities inherent to providing healthcare abroad. ⋯ At present, there is no definitive set of quality assurance guidelines for the surgical outreach community. This report draws on 20 years of outreach experience to recommend a set of quality assurance guidelines for surgical outreach missions.

Long-term treatment effectiveness of molding helmet therapy in the correction of posterior deformational plagiocephaly: a five-year follow-up.
To evaluate the long-term effectiveness of helmet therapy in the correction of deformational plagiocephaly and to assess the early occlusal abnormalities seen in these patients. ⋯ This study demonstrated that helmet remodeling with the dynamic orthotic cranioplasty band is effective in the correction of cranial asymmetry, with some nonstatistically significant changes in long-term cranial vault symmetry. Dental observations indicated the possibility of occlusal abnormalities that may affect dental, especially orthodontic, diagnosis and treatment planning.

Randomized Controlled TrialResults of randomized controlled trial of soft palate first versus hard palate first repair in unilateral complete cleft lip and palate.
To compare the outcomes for primary repair of unilateral cleft lip and palate, operating on the soft palate first versus the hard palate first. ⋯ Changing the sequencing of cleft closure has no demonstrable difference in facial growth at 4 to 7 years after completion of the primary surgery.
