Multicenter Study Comparative StudyHeterogeneous production of proteases from Brazilian clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important human pathogen that causes severe infections in a wide range of immunosuppressed patients. Herein, we evaluated the proteolytic profiles of 96 Brazilian clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa recovered from diverse anatomical sites. ⋯ The protease production was highly heterogeneous in Brazilian clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa, which corroborates the genomic/metabolic versatility of this pathogen.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyTrends in nosocomial infections and multidrug-resistant microorganisms in Spanish pediatric intensive care units.
Nosocomial infections (NI) are a major healthcare problem. National surveillance systems enable data to be compared and to implement new measures to improve our practice. ⋯ The local surveillance systems provide information for dealing with nosocomial infections rates.

Multicenter StudyBurden of severe 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) infection in children in Southeast Spain.
Most of the published studies on patients admitted with 2009 pandemic influenza are not population based. We have compiled the clinical information regarding all children admitted with 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) infection during the season 2009-2010 in our defined population, in order to have an unbiased view of the most severe side of the clinical spectrum of the infection and to quantify its burden. ⋯ Clinical and epidemiological data are very similar to those observed in other places and in interpandemic seasons with a high influenza activity.

Multicenter Study[Preoperative preparation, antibiotic prophylaxis and surgical wound infection in breast surgery].
The impact of surgical wound infection on public health justifies its surveillance and prevention. Our objectives were to estimate the incidence of surgical wound infection in breast procedures and assess its protocol of antibiotic prophylaxis and preoperative preparation. ⋯ Our incidence is within those seen in the literature although it is somewhat higher than the national surveillance programs. The performance of prophylaxis antibiotic must be improved, as well as the recording of preoperative preparation data.

Multicenter Study[HIV infection in immigrants in Spain: Epidemiological characteristics and clinical presentation in the CoRIS Cohort (2004-2006)].
A growing number of immigrants are using the public health services for HIV in Spain. We describe the sociodemographic, epidemiological, and clinical characteristics of a cohort of naïve HIV-infected subjects (CoRIS cohort) according to their place of origin. ⋯ Almost one third of naïve HIV-infected patients in CoRIS are foreign-born. Their sociodemographic, epidemiological and clinical characteristics reflect the epidemic in their places of origin. However, their immunological status at cohort entry and initiation of HAART is no different from that of Spaniards.
