Based on previous reports that ginsenosides have been shown to exert better preventive effects on cisplatin-induced kidney injury, the present work aims to evaluate the protective effects of ginsenoside Rb3 (G-Rb3) on cisplatin-induced renal damage and underlying mechanisms in vivo and in vitro. ⋯ These findings clearly suggested that G-Rb3-mediated alleviation of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity was in part due to regulation of AMPK-/mTOR-mediated autophagy and inhibition of apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.

Oral cancer represents one of the most common malignancies in humans. Its prognosis is still poor, despite the most recent improvements in therapies. An increasing attention is placed on the role of programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) in the tumour immunity and its potential function as a marker for tumour prognosis. Whether PD-L1 expression is a prognostic factor for the poor outcomes in oral squamous cell carcinoma is still controversial. This study aimed to investigate, through a meta-analysis, a potential correlation between PD-L1 expression and the prognostic outcomes in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma. ⋯ High PD-L1 expression did not correlate with poor prognosis of patients suffering for oral squamous cell carcinoma. Studies published on the topic showed a significant variation in results, limiting the use of PD-L1 expression by immunohistochemistry as prognostic biomarker in clinical practice.

Exosomes, as important players in intercellular communication due to their ability to transfer certain molecules to target cells, are believed to take similar effects in promoting bone regeneration with their derived stem cells. Studies have suggested that umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (uMSCs) could promote angiogenesis. This study investigated whether exosomes derived from uMSCs (uMSC-Exos) could enhance fracture healing as primary factors by promoting angiogenesis. ⋯ These results revealed a novel role of exosomes in uMSC-mediated therapy and suggested that implanted uMSC-Exos may represent a crucial clinical strategy to accelerate fracture healing via the promotion of angiogenesis. HIF-1α played an important role in this process.

Accumulating evidence demonstrated that the long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) HOTAIR (Hox transcript antisense intergenic RNA) plays key role in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) malignancy, while microRNA-124 (miR-124) is a tumour suppressor in RCC. The aim of this work was to assess the biological function of HOTAIR and to explore underlying mechanism involved in HOTAIR/miR-124/alpha-2, 8-sialyltransferase 4 (ST8SIA4) axis-regulated progression in RCC. ⋯ Our results demonstrated that HOTAIR mediated RCC progression in part through miR-124/ST8SIA4 axis, which functioned as a new prognostic biomarker in RCC.

Progesterone (P4) has the potential therapeutic effects for traumatic brain injury (TBI) whose recovery depended on the enhanced angiogenesis. Endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) plays an essential role in vascular biology. We previously demonstrated that P4 administration improved circulating EPC level and neurological recovery of rat with TBI. Here, we hypothesized that P4 augmented angiogenic potential of EPC and the angiogenesis-related neurorestoration after TBI through classical progesterone receptor (PR). ⋯ It may suggest that P4-mediated angiogenic activity of EPC and angiogenesis in TBI rats were antagonized by PR antagonist.
