Does hydration status affect MRI measures of brain volume or water content?
To determine whether differences in hydration state, which could arise from routine clinical procedures such as overnight fasting, affect brain total water content (TWC) and brain volume measured with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). ⋯ We demonstrate that within a range of physiologic conditions commonly encountered in routine clinical scans (no pretreatment with hydration, well hydrated before MRI, and overnight fasting), brain TWC and brain volumes are not substantially affected in a healthy control cohort. Comparative StudyDiffusion tensor imaging of the human kidney: Does image registration permit scanning without respiratory triggering?
To investigate if image registration of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) allows omitting respiratory triggering for both transplanted and native kidneys ⋯ Registration improves the quality of DTI in native and transplanted kidneys. Diffusion parameters in renal allografts can be measured without respiratory triggering. In native kidneys, respiratory triggering appears advantageous. J. Magn. Reson. Imaging 2016;44:327-334.

Contrast-enhanced susceptibility weighted imaging with ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide improves the detection of tumor vascularity in a hepatocellular carcinoma nude mouse model.
To evaluate the effectiveness of contrast-enhanced susceptibility-weighted imaging with ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO-enhanced SWI) in the assessment of intratumoral vascularity in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ USPIO-enhanced SWI at a dose of 8 mg Fe/kg greatly improves the detection of intratumoral vascularity in a xenograft HCC model. Hybrid imaging with integrated positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) combines the advantages of the high-resolution anatomic data from MRI and functional imaging data from PET, and has the potential to improve the diagnostic evaluation of various types of cancers. The clinical oncologic applications of this newest hybrid imaging technology are evolving and substantial efforts are underway to define the role of PET/MRI in routine clinical use. The current published literature suggests that PET/MRI may play an important role in the evaluation of patients with certain types of malignancies, involving anatomic locations such as the pelvis and the liver. ⋯ Magn. Assessment of renal function using intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI.
To assess the correlation between each of intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted imaging (IVIM-DWI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) metrics in renal parenchyma with renal function, in a cohort of patients with chronic liver disease. ⋯ The weak correlations between renal IVIM and DCE-MRI perfusion parameters imply that these functional measures could be complementary.
