Observational StudyThe Combination of Diameters of Cricoid Ring and Left Main Bronchus for Selecting the "Best Fit" Double-Lumen Tube.
The aims of this study were to measure diameters of the cricoid ring and left main bronchus in Asian adult patients and to assess the accuracy of double lumen tube size selected according to cricoid and left main bronchus diameter, respectively. ⋯ The "best fit" size of a double lumen tube should be decided by a combination of diameters of the cricoid ring and the left main bronchus.

Observational StudyReappearance of Motor-Evoked Potentials During the Rewarming Phase After Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest.
Although motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) disappear in deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA), MEPs have been used to confirm whether motor function is intact after DHCA. It is crucial to know the timing, body temperature, and MEP amplitude at MEP reappearance to detect spinal cord ischemia after DHCA. However, data on these parameters are sparse. The authors investigated the characteristics of MEPs at reappearance after DHCA. ⋯ There was a wide variation in MEP amplitude at reappearance during the rewarming phase. BT was approximately 34°C when MEPs in the leg recovered. The time to MEP reappearance is influenced significantly by rewarming time and BT.

Observational StudyIntraoperative Transesophageal and Postoperative Transthoracic Echocardiographic Evaluation of a Mechanical Heart Valve Prosthesis Implanted at Aortic Position.
The aims of this study were to evaluate the intraoperative transesophageal echocardiographic (iTEE) characteristics and Doppler flow profile of aortic Chitra heart valve prosthesis (CHVP) under stable hemodynamic and loading conditions, and to compare and correlate the iTEE data with the postoperative transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) data obtained at 48 hours (TTE1) and 3 months (TTE2) after the surgery. ⋯ The iTEE features of CHVP were found compliant with the criteria set by the ASE defining normal functioning of an aortic valve prosthesis. The iTEE Doppler parameters obtained under stable loading conditions strongly predicted the postoperative values of Doppler parameters on TTE examination. The iTEE Doppler values can be used as the reference values for the postoperative follow up studies.
